mass is neither created nor destroyed during chemical and physical reactions. this is stated by the law of conservation of mass.
example:
if you pour sugar salt into a glass of water it wil dissolve(physical change). however if you boil the water away you will still find the salt left.

Mostly everyone knows that in a nuclear reaction, mass is converted into energy using Einstein's formula (E = mc2). What most people don't realize is that this formula also applies to any chemical reaction. The difference is that while nuclear reactions generate a relatively large amount of energy (thus making the mass difference measurable), chemical reactions generate relatively less energy and the mass difference is generally too small to measure (but it is there: if you know the energy output of the reaction, you can calculate the amount of mass that has been converted).

Clarification: most of the energy in chemical reactions comes from the change in energy level of the electrons in the atoms participating in the reaction. However, a very small portion of it is due to mass conversion.

When a physical change occurs the chemical properties of the matter stay the same. The substances that make up matter are exaxtly the same before and after a physical change.

No change happens to the mass during the physical and chemical reaction. The mass chnanges only in the nuclear reaction.

I am sure during a chemical reaction, when energy is the biproduct, some mass is lost.
