An infection in the urinary tract isn't likely to harm the baby since the baby is in a different system protected by the amniotic sac. Don't worry about it...just follow your doctor's advice.

An untreated UTI can be harmful to the baby. You are doing the right thing! You are going to take the antibiotics and get rid of the UTI.
I had a couple of UTIs when I was pregnant with our daughter. One was because I was holding my urine for far too long (I had the choice of whether to walk a good long ways to use the hotel bathroom on 90 degree plus days, using port-a-potties that were also being used by a couple of hundred sweaty men, or holding it... I held it). The rest were the result of me being dehydrated. I don't know if there are other reasons that they could happen, but those two (dehydration and holding it too long) are the reasons behind mine.
With my UTIs, I never felt any symptoms at all. I did, however notice one after I knew what to look for. Urine should be a pale yellow... mine was dark yellow. Dark urine is an indication of dehydration and could be and indicator of a UTI.
What can you do? Take all of the antibiotic that the doctor has prescribed... finish the entire 14 days. Cranberry juice was mentioned. That is an excellent way to help keep future UTIs away... with my last pregnancy (and with any future pregnancies) I took a glass of cranberry juice everyday with my prenatal vitamin. (I recommend the blends, I don't really care for the straight cranberry juice.) Pee when you have to pee, don't hold it for very long. Most of all... keep hydrated. Drink plenty of water (recommended is 64 oz a day).
I will also say this... my midwife told me that the antibiotic that they gave me to end the UTI can sometimes cause a yeast infection. I would recommend taking some medicinal yogurt! A good dose of yogurt (the kind with the live bacteria in it) will help keep the yeast infection away. As for your man, I would suggest you take a short vacation from vaginal sex. If you wind up with a yeast infection, he could catch it, but more than that it will irritate your infection. (With the yeast infections that I got from the course of antibiotics that I had to take, sex was the last thing on my mind!)
Our daughter is now almost 9 months old. The UTIs that I had toward the end of the pregnancy did cause some extra Braxton-Hicks, but other than that no complications and she is a perfectly healthy baby.
Good luck!

im sorry i cant answer any specific questions about uti's but i will say this - i had a problem with a scan recently and decided to come on the net to research and ask other people, by the end of it id been judged by many given bad advice by uninformed and found so many studies to freak me out that i worked myself into such a state i was having palpitations and crying constantly, the up shot being that when i got to my ante-natal and poured the questions and stress out i was simply told not to worry at all, id got myself worked up for nothing and the stress was probably the most harmful thing. So use these networks carefully!!
Other than that i had protein in my urine sample not long ago and that showed the beginning of a water infection, medication is prescribed by those with the greatest knowledge of what is safe, drink as much water as you can to flush your system, many women recommend (and my midwife did) cranberry juice. take any medication and im sure you and baby will be fine. Try not to worry, ask your doctor all the questions you need to, thats wot they are there for. AND TRY TO ENJOY YOUR PREGNANCY!!! its amazing how resilient growing babies are.

FIRST THING STOP PANICKING this will not harm your baby and no you didnt cause this to happen it just happens to some women during pregnancy due to the increase of your hormone levels.
This will not cause your partner to get the infection either as for the pills you will probaly be given a low doses over a longer period so this will not harm your baby because your doctor would not prescribe them for you otherwise.
To prevent this from happening again and even do it now is drink plenty of water to help flush the infection out and dring a glass of cranberry juice daily even after baby is born as this help to keep the bacteria at bay and flushes it out of your body.
Good luck and just remember dont worry it wont do your baby any good also when you go to the loo make sure you fully empty your bladder as this will contribute to an infection whilst pregnant this can be difficult, the best way is to gently rock forwards and backwards as this helps to empty the bladder fully

I'm 13 weeks pregnant, got a call three days ago saying I have a UTI. I have to take one pill twice a day. Like you I was oblivous to the fact that I had one. the doctor assured me that there is nothing wrong with the baby, and put me on antibiotics. this is my third baby, and I also had one with my first. I didn't know then either.
There is nothing to worry about as long as you take all of the medicine, it will clear out. Try not to worry so much.

I believe a UTI is a urinary track infection. they are pretty common. i don't think the doctor would presribe something that would hurt you or your baby.
UTI's can be caused by a number of things...and yes, not wiping right is one of them. :) As far as i know, you wouldn't pass it along to your "man", but you can pass along the bacteria that caused the infection in the first place. just be extra clean.
as far as the symptoms, i've only had one infection before, and i had NO idea. no symptoms...nothing at all. i was just in for a routine check-up. you don't want to let UTI's get very far along, because apparently they are incredibly painful. one of my best friends had one once that she let go, and she ended up in the hospital for a couple of days feeling like she was peeing daggers.
one thing you can do in the future is drink cranberry juice. the acid in the juice helps keep you from getting infections. :)
feel better!

I know a few women who have being diagnoses with UTI. Don't panic its more harmful to you than your baby, but I know a friend of mine, got UTI Before she found out she was pregnant and during, so don't panic as long as you do what the doctor tell you, leave pop alone and drink plenty of water and ask him what juice and other things you can drink. Congrats on the baby and Good Luck.~~~

UTIs are pretty normal in pregnant women. You need to make sure that you take all of the medication given to you. Your baby is not in harms way and neither is your man. Its way harder for a man to get a UTI than a woman. It will be fine and you don't need to worry so much :)

UTI's are so common for pregnany women, I had 3 bladder infections while preggo, (worse than a UTI)
the doctor caught it before it became painful to pee, be thankful...
I hardly drank any sodas. and if i drank a few BOOM UTI!
Just another symptom to deal with while incubating your miracle!
( they will give you some meds that will make your urine bright orange!) and it will go away in aboout a week, DRINK WATER AND CRANBERRY JUICE TO FLUSH IT OUT FASTER!
also stay away from bubble baths and even baths while pregnant in general take a shower !( no harm to the baby!)
ENJOY!!!
im about 8 weeks today! I'll be with you soon, very soon!

Speaking as a physician, let me concur with what was said earlier. UTIs are common in pregnant women. Due to your changing hormonal patterns you're predisposed to UTIs. In my experience there will be no long term effect on baby as long as you take your meds and the UTI is properly treated.
A good resource is the following website (it's a bit technical since it's mainly written for physician's but it's the straight scoop)
