I am a drummer and, without trying to sound up myself, I think I'm fairly good. I'm not one of those drummers who tries to drown everyone out or play over the other instruments. Drums are the only thing I'm good at but I feel under acknoladged, and lately I've found myself wishing I played a quiter instrument. The most common words my music teacher says are "no drums".
Do other drummers get this from other people? And are there people other than drummers who follow the drummer of the band or does everyone love the lead guitarist?

Drummers are the hardest working member of the band. Without them, there would no rhythm. People should give them more props.

I'm a bassist, so I have a lot of respect for drummers. Drummers often don't get any love, but, in my opinion, drums are the hardest instrument to play. I've sat behind a kit, and I'm pretty lost back there. But I can pick up a guitar and be respectable.
As far as best drummers, listen to Neil Pert from Rush or Carter Beuford of the Dave Matthews Band. Both guys are bad ***. Vinnie Paul from Pantera is another personal favorite of mine.

Drummers ROCK! My daughter is the only girl playing snare in the high school band!
Without drums you the music just isnt the same! Your music teacher has forgotten to appreciate drums!! LOL
Keep at it you will improve with time, I know this from watching my daughter...she took lessons for 2 years and at times didnt think she would ever get faster and for her to make the high school band was something else!
GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!

I feel that I am not noticed as a drummer too. I am pretty good and I think that the singer and the guitar players of bands the get most attention and I think drummers are the coolest. I feel your pain. DRUMS ROCK!!!!!!!!!!

The drummer is the heart of the band even though most people will never acknowledge this. Everybody else is just following you after all.

I'm a bass player. Drummers are the other half of the foundation, everything else is just icing on the cake. Be content with your role, or change instruments, or your perspective.
