I want to learn to play piano and keyboard but don't know which to start on. I've never played either. Is the piano much more complicated because of the pedals? Which is easier - going from keyboard to piano, or piano to keyboard? (Let's assume price is not an option!) I want to be able to home-record either on top of my guitar playing and vocals.

Piano. If you want proper classical training with scales and everything. ( And even if you don`t)

Mainly, to get the 'feel' of the piano and you can be much more expressive. Also, usuall more keys.
The pedals are an art, but will come naturally with time.
You will prob need a sustain pedal even with a keyboard.

I have both ,and prefer my piano above my keyboard.

I wish you luck & discipline in your training,(as an adult ) `cos my 30yr old cousin asked me to teach her, but then she gave up after the first lesson.

I've been working with the course for about a week now, and it's incredible. Just the practice aids and the different scales and memory techniques in Book 9 are worth the price of the course, alone! There are two things that make this course stand out. First, all the video and audio files are embedded in the lesson. I have yet to find another piano course that makes it this easy. It's so nice not to have three files going at the same time!

The second thing is that you actually get to play in each lesson! And the songs are not "Mary had a Little Lamb" types! From the Beatles to Bethoven, it's all there. I have several piano courses that I have ordered over the internet. This is the one I use because it makes learning fun! I'm amazed! Once you get the rhythms down, you really can sound like a pro! Great fun! Thanks for making this available at such a reasonable price. Anyone who doesn't grab this up is going to go the long way home! Joy!

Now ANYONE Can Learn Piano or Keyboard?

If money's not an issue, then buy a keyboard with weighted keys and has pedals. That way it has the versatility of a keyboard but feels like a real piano.

Piano. Piano and Keyboard are bascially the same, but the Piano I think is harder to do because of the foot pedals (foot pedals are pretty much the difference). But in the long run, going from piano to keyboard is the easiest thing you could do.

PIANO!!!!! it sounds much more realistic and emotions can bee expressed in the music. take it from someone who has been playing the stupid thing for about 10 years now. my parents got me a keyboard, but it's not the same, no way.
also, playing with pedals isn't that hard and allows for a lot more options when playing.

Start on piano, Get your basics (finger mechanics, theory, etc) down without having to think about sound generating, then dive into keyboards.

I had a professor who started learning to play piano in her 40s. You're never too old to learn.
