Periods can be very irregular in your teen years. Most women take 5 years after thier first period to get on a good 28 say schedule.

But there are always things that can mess with the consistency - birth control, stress, hormones, some foods.

There are lots of reasons that your period could be delayed. If you are not pregnant, the most likely cause of a late period is hormonal--you are not ovulating or ovulating irregularly.

Amenorrhea, or absent periods, is defined as three to six months without menstruating. If it gets to that point or if you are having any other symptoms or medical problems, you should see your doctor for an evaluation. If you get a period before then, you may want to keep a record of your cycles so you will know if they get off track again, and you can then show the record to your doctor at your annual examination.

Don't forget, if you are trying to conceive, to take a folate supplement every day. If your ovulations are irregular, you never know when you may become pregnant.

There are so many things that can affect this! First, it could take several years for you to establish your own "cycle," and it may be different for everyone.

You mention that it's "always late." Have you tried charting, to see if you simply have a longer cycle than most?

If it's not bothering you (other than the worry about it not coming), then just relax. But if you have other bothersome symptoms like especially heavy cramping, etc., you might want to consult a doctor.

And these things are just persnickety that just worrying about it being late can cause it to come late. So the best advice is just to relax.

Alternately, being on birth control (whether needed for other reasons or not) can help to regulate your periods.

actually i am suffering the same problem but i can tell u why:
when i'm stressed or worried or nervous it always comes late and wit pain. also when i'm not watching my diet. you know last month i lost a good deal of pounds and lost alot of fats round my abdomen area, this made it come on time, if u are into sports try to drink a lot of water as my doctor told me that the lack of water causes the period to come late especially with athletes, another thing is u should avoid watching porn movies and cheap things and don't think too much about sex as all this makes it come tooooo late, trust me

you may not have a 21 day cycle. you may have a 28 day cycle, or somewhere in between 21 and 28 days. or, you may be an irregular ovulator -- your body may not produce eggs on a regular basis.
