Try the Free version of Log Me in
www.logmein.com

register, install thet s/w on home computer. keep it on .
and you can access it thru work form Internet explorer. like a remote desktop computer.

the free version does not allow file sharing or transfer between the two computers though.

PC anywhere, Gotomypc and others allow you to do this easily, but you have to pay for the software. If you have XP professional at home and know your home computer's IP address, you can use remote desktop (assuming neither your work nor your ISP's firewalls block remote desktop). W/O XP professional at home, you have to use 3rd party software.

There's a lot of remote desktop software, but I reccommend Ultr@VNC. http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net
You can use the java viewer at work (in most cases)
