I also want to work with him on crawling--but he hates being on his stomach! Any advice.

Boppy for the sitting up.

Lots of tummy time even if he hates it, for the crawling.

My son is 9 1/2 mos. and still learning. We practice by sitting on the floor together to play. Toys are a good incentive, but if they're too far away he falls over. He's taken a few dives, but he's never done any damage. Getting better at it all the time.

As for crawling, some kids do it early, some late, some never. Don't worry about it too much. Lots of time to play on the floor helps. Put toys he likes a little out of reach.

Sitting up. I used to put a pillow on the floor and then play with my kids. Prop them up. If they fall over they fall on the pillow. Crawling. Get down on the floor too. He may not want to be down there alone.

This is obviously you first born.
We all seem in a hurry to speed up our child's growths when they are the first and no matter what anyone says to you that's what your aim will be. When the second one comes along you are so busy that he/she seems to get along fine without you pushing him to do things.
You can only prop him if he is not sitting as yet. He will crawl when he is ready and all the help from you won't speed it up. When he gets stronger he will amaze you and do all the things you are expecting but be patient and enjoy him as he is now. Every child has their own pace and no matter how long it takes I can assure you your baby will do all the things you want him to and more.
Just enjoy and be with him because believe me they don't stay babies for very long.

You are such a good mom! It is so wonderful that all babies are not alike! My son never crawled. He would sit up and pull up on something then one day he just walked! Let him be himself! He will do his own thing believe me!

Give him time. He will sit up on his own. You can help to strengthen his abdominal muscles by putting him on his tummy on a blankie on the (clean)floor a few times a day for about ten minutes, though, and that will help him along.

my daughter also hated tummy time. the thing that i think helped her to gain Independence in sitting is the bumbo chair. they sell them everywhere and they are great! she is 15 months and still sits in it cause it is so comfy. it helps them be able to sit up without help and made her want to do it for herself. i would try that. crawling is up to them good luck!

I have the same problem. i got a walker and that helps him with his posture, and just sit him with lots of pillows around him.

Try a bumbee seat or a boppy pillow. They are wonderful.
