i dont know about a large amount of money but i found a £20 note in my local supermarket once and handed it in with my phone number and they rang me a few days later to say that an old fella had dropped it and it was all the money he had so i felt so glad i handed it in.

Here is what happened to me. Just before christmas a couple of years ago I went to buy my husbands christmas present. i went to use my credit card and it said no funds, I went to get money out of the bank and it said no funds. As i went to walk away from the bank I looked at the cash point next to the one I used and there was a lot of money left hanging out of the machine. I looked around and there was no one near the bank. Without even giving myself time to think I took the money and handed it in at the counter of the bank. When I had a chance to think I felt sick and went home in tears. Was I right or wrong? My subconcious made the decision for me and I can only believe I did the right thing, the money could have been an old persons pension or another mothers christmas money for her children.

If it was someones wallet or purse then I'd hand it over. If it was a random wad of cash, I'd probably keep it. But now, I'm thinking about bl**dy Frank Capras "It's a Wonderful Life" and having second thoughts... Dammit.

I would risk being called crazy, and definitely turn it in to the local police station. Just think how you would feel if you were the one who lost it-wouldn't you want someone who found it to turn it in? It could be some poor soul's entire savings.

i disagree with people that say things like "he's as honest as the day is long". the only honest people are those that are not ever in a position to be dishonest

I think if you thought that there was any honesty in other people then you would hand it in, but you know deep down that no one else would hand it in, so why should you? Its a vicious circle.

only if i found it in a public place like a store or restaraunt but probably not if it was like on a sidewalk or in a park. it also depends how much it is.
