I work for a car rental hire company and the new Astra is one of our most popular cars. I drive them on a daily basis and think they're great! they look the business! The main complaints we get from customers are that the seats are a little low and the boot space is limited. I think the 3 door version looks great but is very claustrophobic! the roof in the back is very low ~ not ideal for 4 adults! The petrol version is quite thirsty 2!
Mechanically I don't know of any faults. They seem to run well. If I were to buy a new car I would defintely opt for the Astra. They are a pleasure to drive and look fantastic! I would opt for a 5 door diesel though!

Hi Paul, have a look at the Top Gear website (link to the Astra review below). It's always a good resource for reading up on cars.

awful brand- u will be throwing yr money away- it doesnt hold its value. u will regret such a buy.ok its good looking but other than that is bad. build quality is bad too- interior is cheap.
best bet is brands= merc(a class), audi (a4,a3), vw(polo, GOLF(car of yr!!!!)), bmw (1,3 series, x3,x5)
-nothing else. it may be more to buy, but u will be laughing when u sell it. (check out same spec 2nd ahnd golfs to astra's and u will see how bad astra's are)
if nothing will sway u- jeremy clarkson hates vauxhalls

I've got the Astra A-75, and love it. All steel, single-stack, well-made.
