What is the title of a book about an older sister trying to figure out why her little sister commited suicide?

Rock star named David Angel is a major factor.
Older sister reads little sisters journal/diary.
I believe it won an award of some kind. I believe I saw a medallion on the book jacket.
Probably written after 1990 and definately before 2000.
I believe it's considered a young adult book.
Reason I remember the name David Angel as the rock star because there is a passage in it about how the name "Frank Langella" reminds the sister of the David Angel mention in her sisters diary.
The book jacket may have had a picture of the moon or a candle or both and the picture may have something to do with the title of the book.

sounds like it could be "the virgin suicides", or a movie w/ cameron diaz awhile back, like something circus or carnival..

i may be totally off the mark, but try 'the blind assassin' by margaret atwood. it's worth reading anyway.
