My doctor said that the genitals are actually distinguishable around 15 weeks or so but not as likely to be seen clearly in an ultrasound. She prefers to do ultrasounds around 20 weeks when the picture will be alittle better. We found out at 19 weeks this time- Its a boy. Girls are also a bit harder to tell than boys.

I had my ultrasound done at 19 weeks 2 days and the ultrasound showed the babys sex very clearly. The clinic where I go to will not do any early ultrasounds unless you are a high risk patient other wise they do it at 19 weeks and they tell you that they might not be able to tell you the sex because sometimes the babys position is not the best for them to tell you.

Most OBs and ultrasound techs arent comfortable giving an answer before 20 weeks because the parts are still developing. Some techs will let you know around 18 weeks but before that the parts are growing so much that they could be wrong.

Usually right around 15 or 16 weeks. However, sometimes they still can not tell depending on the position of the baby. Congrats and hope that whatever he/she is they are healthy and happy!
