My co-worker and I are male in our mid 20’s.

We work for a very small company, and we are the only employees.

Our boss requires us to carpool to other jobs together.

When my co-worker drives us he smokes pot while I am in the vehicle.

I never say anything because we are in HIS car.

My wife found out about this and said she was very disappointed in me because we don’t life that lifestyle.

In fact, I have never even smoked a cigarette.

She said she is mad because he is on company time smoking illegal drugs with ME in the car.

She is also angry because if we get pulled over I could be arrested along with co-worker.

She told me she wanted to call my boss, but didn't because its my responsibility to talk to him about it.

Driving in my car all the time is not possible, my boss requires us to drive in his car sometimes too since we don't have a company vehicle.

My boss likes to smoke pot on occasion too!

Is she right to be mad?

Ha yeah id be pissed too. Depending on how much he has, you could easily get pulled over and busted. He would recieve a DUI and you would both recieve a possesion charge that would follow you (not that bad though) Also, if for some reason you ever had to take a drug test, you would fail with flying colors for up to 3 months after riding with him. It will be in your system from the second hand and in your hair for a long time. Plus, you will probably smell like it too. If i were you i'd politely throw it into a conversation and tell him it makes you uncomfortable. Best of luck to ya
p.s. dont listen to sisinlove...if your in the car and there is pot in there, its at the cops discretion whether or not you get in trouble too. Cops have bad days too...

I think she is over reacting a little bit. If your boss smokes pot occassionally too, then you are not at risk to get fired obvioulsy. And she is only half-way right about being pulled over. It really depends on how your co worker is smoking it and how much he is possessing with him. If he's just smoking a joint...a cop might even let him go (it has happened many times before), or the cop might just write him a ticket for simple possession as long as he doesn't have alot of weed on him. HIGHLY doubtful you'd get arrested. My boyfriend was pulled over one time and he was in possession. He just got a ticket and me and another passenger in the car didn't get anything. Tell your wife to calm down. You're doing the right thing by not smoking with him in the car, on company time. When you're off work is another story. Your wife seriously needs to calm down. It could be worse.

She does have a right to be unhappy about this...I don't know where you are from but it depends on the laws in your country or location whether or not you may be in trouble if stopped by a cop for any given reason...I would reconsider driving with this individual until he agrees to smoke "pot" on his own time...It almost seems to me that you may be indulging in a little yourself, but it is only a sense.....you seen very supportive and defensive...hope I am wrong for your sake because you would be keeping something important from your wife

He assumes you are cool with it because you have never expressed your thoughts on the matter. Simply tell him or ask him if he would mind waiting until you guys got out of the car. Let him know the reason I am sure he will understand. And no your wife is not completely correct for the simple fact that it is his vehicle, and he can do as he chooses. And if you were to get pulled over you can get out of it because you are innocent and nothing on you. But contact highs are just as bad as far as drug testing goes. Now if you are partaking with him and just don't want your wife to know then I would say get yourself a clean set of clothes to change into when you get to work then change back into the originals after doing the deed so your wife does not find out and get the other man in hot water.

Yes she is right. Right to be mad, and right that you will be arrested if you get stopped. Do you really want to go to jail because your co-worker is smoking pot? It sounds like you need to get a new job.

Well, your wife is correct that if you get pulled over, BOTH of you can be sited for the illegal substances, or accessories. It may be some of her anger, was venting because the prospect of you being sited scared her. While it is his car, you shouldn't be afraid of expressing your concerns to him. Most likely he will respect the drive time, otherwise compromise and you drive occasionally, and perhaps he can refrain on the days when you pool.

Well, yes and no. He really shouldn'a be smoking it while you're in the car. That's just disrespectful of you. However, since your boss smokes a lil' summin-summin as well, I doubt he'd get to worked up over it. Just ask your co-worker not to smoke in your presence (regardless of who owns the car); lest he's an a$$hole, he really shouldn't have a problem with it.

Post Script: I am a bit of a pothead myself, but wouldn'a inflect my habits on others

Yes! He's endangering not only his life, but also yours and anyone he might hit while driving. And if he's in an accident on company time, your boss is liable and could lose the company. If he's pulled over, you'll be in trouble, too. You need to talk to your boss NOW. If he doesn't fire the druggie for his illegal behavior on company time you should find yourself another job and in the meantime refuse to be a passenger when the druggie drives. If you're fired (which I doubt), you could sue your employer for firing you for refusing to participate in illegal behavior.

She has a suitable to be mad so a techniques as getting pulled over and you getting arrested alongside with him. And that's illegitimate to smoke pot era. you're able to communicate with him and tell him you dont want to be interior the automobile with him if hes extreme...and besides that he would desire to get into an twist of destiny and kill you...or somebody else. You wouldnt choose that for the period of your concience would you?? in case you dont want to assert something to him..i think of you're able to discover yet another job. I propose i be responsive to alot of folk who smoke weed yet no longer for the period of workin hours,,and not putting others lives at risk on the line.

Sounds like your wife doesnt want to have to bear the burden of bailing you outta jail.

I realize your job may be at stake, but you can always get another job.

I'd mention the concern to your boss and go from there...dont put yourself at risk.
