NO! Absolutely not!

But in most cases you need to BE HAPPY to be beautiful.

Stephanie D - it's wonderful that you are content with the simple beauties which constantly surround you. You don't need beauty to be content or fulfilled - don't ever believe that you do. The individuals who say that beauty is the ultimate desirous trait are blinding themselves to the greater parts of life. If you cannot see the beauty in yourself and others, the term 'beautiful' is of no valuable meaning whatsoever. Human beings were never meant to be perfect, nor were we meant to inhabit a perfect world. If you are still able to appreciate your life irregardless of its imperfections, be proud, because you have achieved a peace that few ever come to realize. :D

No, it could make things worse.
Like Ani Difranco says,
"And god help you if you are an ugly girl
course too pretty is also your doom
cause everyone harbors a secret hatred
for the prettiest girl in the room."

Would you rather be loved and accepted for your beautiful soul or your beautiful body?

Besides, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Seriously.

It depends on what kind of beauty. Beauty of the body, or beauty of the spirit?Or visual beauty, like a Renaissance painting, or touchable beauty, like silk, velvet or a favorite stuffed animal?Beauty to some extent is necessary for happiness, but is very dependant on an individuals perspective on what is considered beauty.

According to Magazines & TV - Yes. Those of us who arent a size double zero out to be cut up & hung to dry.

As long as you're beautiful on the inside you're perfect IMHO.

I believe that it is eqaully dificult to be happy if your physically eautiful or not. You always want more or what you don't have. Ugly girls are often unhappy because they want to be pretty. Pretty girls want to be prettier and still obsess about somthing wrong with their body...they are often unhappy too. I think if a person really knows themselves and what they want (realistically), happines is accessible. So NO beauty is not necessary to be happy.

I think it definitely helps those who are.

Of course, money and intelligence seem to work best. Look at all the money inventors have made because of their brains. Silicon valley geeks, for example.

That is a really sad question. I disagree with that and beauty is definitely subjective in almost all cases.
