Even with the latest SRX technology, no consumer wireless solution is going to reach a mile. 1000 feet if you're very lucky. You'd need a special transmitter/receiver, probably a different broadcast frequency... all way out of range for someone who would be asking this question here. I have heard of a solution using ham radio frequencies, which would give you hundreds or even thousands of miles of range, but limited bandwith. There is also subsonic transmission (like the nuclear subs use), but the bandwidth would be achingly slow...

It can be up to 10 miles with the right equipment. My original setup was 6 miles. Since I put up the tower in my yard it is only a matter of 100-200 feet. A lot of the better laptop adapters have a range of 1600-1800 feet.
My ISP has a laptop with a range of 6 miles, because he can sit in my yard and ping the repeater 6 miles away.

Typically, a wireless network range won't be much more than 100 feet. There are various ways to extend it, but not to a mile!

I dont know about a 1 mile range, but I'd go to www.linksys.com VERY informative. You might be able to go that far with range expanders..........MAYBE.

There is an interesting and simple article in microsoft named "Wireless Networking Made Simple" (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/expert/bowman_02december16.mspx). This guide is for Windows XP users.

Please be specific in what OS or wireless network adapter you are using and i can provide you more details.
