Actually it's HCG. It stands for Human Chrionic Gonadotropin. It's a hormone released in your body during pregnancy. This is what is detected in urine from a home pregnancy test. HCG serves to maintain progesterone production by the corpus luteum in the early part of pregnancy. By the time HCG drops at the beginning of the second trimester, the placenta can make sufficient progesterone to maintain
the endometrium. HCG also stimulates the development of fetal gonads and synthesis of androgens by the fetal testes. HCG has a similar to function to LH in stimulating secretion of estrogen and development of the placenta.

hGC is the hormone that a fertilized egg puts out once it implants into the uterus. The "level" would be the amount of hGC detected in urine or blood.
The more sensetive home pregnancy tests detect hGC at a pretty low level, which is why they say that you can detect pregnancy even before your missed period. (In my personal experience, I haven't gotten a positive test until after my period was due.)
Commonly, in early pregnancy, this amount doubles every day. Sometimes doctors like to measure how much it is going up, if they are concerned about a pregnancy.
Best of Luck!

HCG is the pregnancy hormone. Pregnancy tests work by detecting this hormone, and prenatal bloodwork can help determine how well the baby is growing if the HCG levels are increasing appropriately alongside the progesterone levels. some doctors refer to the HCG levels as Beta levels.

HCG is the pregnancy hormone. So the HCG level is the amount of HCG in your bloodstream. I think it doubles every day or something like that. That's how they were able to tell that I was having a miscarraige. They tested my blood & my levels were dropping.
