You usually wait until they're 4 to 5 months old to start them on solid food.

There is no set time.
Doctors say not until 6 months at least.
I started giving my daughter cereal at 4 months because she was eating so much.
Her cousin started getting both at 5 months for the same reason.
You should do it when you feel you child is ready. Try it in the morning or day, that way if they don't take to it right it will not keep you up all night. Try cereal first, give it a few days then try some bay food if they like the cereal. Try a vegetable not a fruit. It you are really unsure ask you mom, or a family member that has kids, I am sure they will give you advice.

For any solids wait until at least 4 months of age and start with rice cereal. Don't put the cereal in the bottle though, it can be a choking hazard. Jarred baby food can probably be started around 5 to 6 months old. My son started on it at 5 months old because he's underweight for his age. Our doctor gave us the green light at 5 months old.

My pediatrician told me that when my daughter was able to sit up well would be a good time to start. However, when she wanted to eat for 30 - 40 minutes at a time(she was breast fed) at the age of 4 mos. I started her on cereal and stage one foods within a month of that. Take cues from your baby. I f she is acting as if she is still hungry after a "usual" feeding, then she may not be getting full on milk or formula alone anymore. Good Luck!

there is really no set age to start. although doctors will tell you to wait until there like 6 months. it all dependson the baby. if the baby is still hungry after he has a bottle then it is time to give the baby cereal. mix the cereal in the botlle with the formula. the baby will get full and sleep well. my sister had to give her son cereal when he was like 3 months old because he was not getting filled up on his formula.

The doctors say they must be six months old to start with solid foods. Really then need to be able to sit up on their own so that they can swallow. So sometimes as early as six months. And if they can't eat yet you can always give them a littel in their bottle. Don't give them too much to start because that cereal takes awhile to get used to.
My kids ate rice cereal until 13 or 14 months old. It is great for breakfast with apple sauce or yogurt/

Usually it is 6 months. babies digestive systems cant absorb or digest any nutrients besides formula and breast milk until after they are 6 months, it just passes through their system. You can start trying to spoon feed at 5 months to get them used to it, but it isnt recommended that you give them a lot, since they cant digest it. They will feel full from it, taking away from the nutrients they could be getting from the formula or milk.
Dont worry too much about it. They will let you know when they are ready. If they seem very interested in your food, or when you try to give it to them, they dont push it out, then they might be ready. Mine didnt start eating stage 1 until they were 7 months, and they hated the cereal.
Just remember when introducing foods to wait a day between new food, in case of allergic reaction you will know what food caused it.
hope this info helped you out!

This depends on whether baby is formula-fed or breastfed. Formula fed babies often start on solids around 4 months of age. Breastfed babies should be exclusively breastfed for six months; sometime in the second half of the first year, solids may be introduced, according the American Academy of Pediatrics' statement of policy regarding "Breastfeeding and the use of Human Milk." Excusive breastfeeding for six months maximizes the benefits of breastfeeding and minimizes baby's risks of allergies, intestinal problems, infections, and other difficulties.
Some signs of solids readiness are teeth, pincer grasp (ability to pick up small objects, such as peas, between thumb and forefinger), interest in what others are eating (although this alone does not signify readiness), and loss of the tongue-thrust reflex that makes baby push a spoon out of his/her mouth.

I started my son on baby cereal at 2 months but doctors tell not to give it to them until they are about 6 months. It will not hurt them, the baby food can be given to them at about 4 or 5 months.
