It's all the matter of concepts, of what one thinks is a great problem. From a human point of view global warming is; it's bad for us, producing unusually wild weather, melting ice-caps, flooding New York and Amsterdam or whatever. From the conservationists' point of view it's an even bigger one, it will destroy habitats (what will poor emperor penguins do without a polar ice cap where they do their breeding? And they're probably not the only ones endangered by the change in climate.)
From Nature's point of view it's nothing. There were global coolings and warmings during the long history of life, and life has survived everything so far, but then extinction is just a natural part of the way things go here, as is cannibalism or whatever we consider "bad". Human values don't apply on nature.

As for my opinion, I'm unfortunately human and therefore I do care. I have strong emotional bonds to all the wonderful life on this planet, and I have the very human abilities of empathy and sympathy, so I'll feel sorry for the victims of hurricanes and stuff like that. But I also understand that things are good and bad only in a human context.

I care, because it is a big problem.

The US must ratify the Kyoto protocal, being the first step toward doing something about this global problem which we are cheifly to blame.

CO2 is 30% higher than it has been for 650,000 years. Methane is 130% greater. These are two of the main pollutants humans put into the atmosphere in excess, and they are two of the primary greenhouse gases.

Look at the 'hockeystick', which shows a dramatic warming since 1950 after a fairly stable climate for 1000 years. In fact, the 10 hottest years in recorded history have all happened since 1990, with 2005 being the hottest, and 2006 is shaping up to maybe break that record.
(see links below)

How's that for proof of man's fault in this? There is ample proof, any real scientist will tell you that.

There has NEVER been an article doubting man's influence on global warming published in a peer-reviewed journal. A recent study of almost 1000 proved that.

Yes, the earth naturally heats and cools, but the rate and amount we are warming now is unprecedented in the recent geologic past. We are doing this, and we must stop it. This is not some political statement or rhetoric. This is science trying to educate a crass, ignorant public of the damage they are doing. The magnitude of temperature increase ALREADY is about 10x that of the 'little ice age' of the middle ages, and rate and amount are only going up.

Just to be clear, glacial and interglacial cycles are mainly controlled by astronomical fluctuations, but we have a detailed record of the last 7 cycles, and what the climate and CO2 is doing now is way different and extreme. The rate of increase is much higher than in the past AND the value itself is much higher.

Dear terry,

There are definitely ging to be consequences for Global Warming, However, the Bible has much information indicating that 2011 will mark the end of the world. Incidently, the world will not end because of a meteor striking the earth or nations entering into a nuclear war. The world is going to end when the last person to be saved is saved (born again). The Lord (Jesus Christ) speaks of the is in 2 Peter 3. He begins with the flood of Noah's day and then moves to the end (end of the world, universe) when the "elements burn with fervent heat." Between these two events, God says that ...1 day is as a thousand years and a thousand years is a day... Noah's flood occurred in 4990 B.C. If we go to Genesis 7 where the flood is described, God tells Noah and his family with the animals to go into the ark to preserve them alive. If we add 7000 to 4990 B.C. we come to 2011 A.D. There are a great number of Bible verses suggesting that this is the year that the Lord Jesus Christ will return (marking the end of the world).

Well I don't think anybody here doesn't care about it. It's everybody's problem so I think we can't ignore it. The problem is that not many people are really thinking about it much or even doing anything about it. The only thing I know that if it this problem doesn't get solved soon it could and will become a much bigger problem than it already is.

nope because shortly after significant warming, there will be a mini ice-age, so it will all work out even

global warming, some humans think is a big issue, but only because we over rate ourselves as a species. The earth will take care of herself, with or without humans.

On a personal aspect, I have were given over my THE destiny OF the completed international relies upon on ME making use of a lot less CARDBOARD!!!!! style paranoia and that i have mellowed and stopped fretting. i will even settle for with equanimity the inevitable extinction of tigers, polar bears etc. it truly is unhappy - yet existence and shortage of life are both aspect of an analogous coin. i'm no longer going to waste any more advantageous of my existence irritating about the destiny of the planet and that i imagine all and various else ought to offer it up and enable the chips fall the position they could. yet your question is what's the worst that ought to ensue, and that i imagine we can, interior the destiny, change right into a good more advantageous segregated international society than we've ever been. it is going to come all the way down to chilly, confusing money at the same time as it is composed of survival. The seas will upward push, many species will change into extinct causing a disruptive ripple by the most suitable species which will very last till a clean stability is stumbled on to slot the nes ecosystem. This has got here about mant circumstances interior the previous and turned right into a organic aspect in the previous. Land disappearing below the sea will in reality spoil international places such as Bangladesh, the Netherlands and the Maldives. there'll be epic human migrations, thousands and thousands of people scrambling to come across a secure position to stay. this can carry about wars and controlling fascist style states (as they're going to be the in reality ones with the balls to controll the issue and attempt to save themselves) all the wussy liberal international places will be destroyed from interior by making use of severe immigration - breakdown of social amenities, regulation and order etc, in different words anarchy. the most wealthy will decide on autonomous enclaves like medieval city states, those will be rigidly managed and secure by making use of their personal inner most military. it in many circumstances is the recent center a lengthy time period and non secular fanatisism will prevail over enlightenment. there'll be plagues and pogroms. it will be like Europe after the autumn of the Roman Empire - the darkish a lengthy time period. yet as time is going by making use of, issues will settle and there'll be a clean Renaissance, and the cycle will proceed. Our use of this planet isn't sustainable we can tip the stability and be compelled right into a clean international order. we can adapt and the fittest will proceed to exist.

Yes. I try to do my part to help. I recycle everything that I can. My next vehicle will be a hybrid, which should also save me money on gas. If it's not too far I walk.I teach Earth Science and stress what we can do to slow down global warming

I think global warming is a big problem. I think millions of displaced people, from hurricanes, floods, and other disasters might blame global warming too. What to do?

Global warming is an international problem. I assure you everybody is concerned either openly or secretly. Even those countries more concerned about their industries and their products are worried about the reaction of their allies concerning their industrial recklessness on earth's environment
