I just want some opinions on what people think about a couple living together and not getting married. I have been with my boyfriend for two plus years. we have one daughter together. I was married before and now divorced. I love him. I just don't think I want to get married again...PLUS, the benefits of not being married when it comes tax time. PS, I am not a very religious person so the living in sin thing doesn't cut it with me.

Girl I hear ya! I have been married before and believe me it's gonna take along time before I go through that again! I live with my current boyfriend now, and he has been through the same thing as me, so we are on the same page.

Marriage - "when two people are under the influence of the most violent, most insane, most delusive, and most transient of passions. They are required to swear that they will remain in that excited, abnormal, and exhausting condition continuously until death do them part." --George Bernard Shaw

Think about it!

Well, since the religion aspect is out, then I don't think it's a big deal. So long as you're commited to each other and your daughter, and not going off with other people. Sometimes not being married can be better. There isn't the feeling of being tied down. I knew someone who was living with her boyfriend fors years, but when they finally got married they got a divorce quickly because they couldn't handle the commitement. So, in some cases, especially one like yours where you don't know if you want to be married again, it's sometimes better to stay together and just not get married.

I think it can be beneficial to live with your partner and not be married. Just because you don't have a piece of paper stating that 'by law' you are married doesn't mean your relationship is any different or lesser. If you are commited and love your partner then to me that is a marriage. These days there are so many different types of relationships, it's really a matter of what suits individual couples regardless of other peoples opinions.

I think it is great. My husband and i lived together for 15 years before we did it. Just remember that you might not be able to get any benefits if the other one passes away. Depending on place of employment .Even if you do get married in the looooong future, you may have to be married for a certain amount of time before they will be in effect. My dad and his wife were only married 6 months and she didn't get a thing except what he left her in his will. she got no pension or insurance. Good luck

Marriage is not only for the benefit of the couple, but it is also for the children. When a husband and wife are bound by a public promise to stay faithful to each other, to remain dedicated to one another even through sickness and poverty, the marriage bond is a much stronger one, and this is vitally important because marriage is the foundation of society. It is the bedrock of moral development of children and the place where faithfulness and integrity are lived out in the lives of its participants. If a man and woman live together without the benefit of marriage, they are saying that God is not correct and that marriage is not necessary. If they have children out of wedlock they are risking the children's moral and emotional health since the children will learn that convenience and self-serving ideals are more important than integrity. They will learn that personal preference is more valuable than the welfare of another. They will learn that selfishness is the model to live by since the sacrifice of commitment to one person has not been made. In additions, children need security and instruction. Marriage helps to secure the family bond thereby providing a more secure environment for the children to grow up in so that they might properly learn morality and integrity as they enter into society as adults. After all, those parents who do not value marriage tend to not value commitment and children should not be raised where the parents are not committed to each other. Furthermore, marriage with its promise of fidelity, helps to ensure health through the prevention of venereal diseases. Marriage helps to ensure the very sanctity of the spouse to spouse relationship since marriage is a public statement of exclusive dedication. This helps to have trust in the relationship where a marriageless, living-together relationship can have no true trust since they are together out of convenience. If it becomes inconvenient, then they can easily break up -- children or no children. Marriage is not just a piece of paper. It is a promise to live together faithfully, till death, through thick and thin, sickness and health and it is a benefit to the children who are raised in it.

I have lived with my boyfriend for more than 3 yrs. I was married previously one ended in divorce after 10 1/2 yrs and the other my husband died after being married 9 months. If you think that living with your boyfriend suits you then I say go for it. No one has to live with your choice but you.

I definately think people should live to gether before getting married. But there is no reason to get married, just 'casue that is what society thinks you ought to do.
The ONLY reason I got married was because my now husband said no babies until we are married, so...
To me it is merely a piece of paper that makes things so much more difficult to get out of later.
Do what works for the two of you, don't let family or friends tell you what to do.

If I were in your situation I would be doing the same thing. If I were to get divorced there is no way I would be able to get married again, you are making a very good decision.

Well, I don't believe in people living together before marriage, but if you have children together, that could be an exception...Why are you asking this question if you know that you don't want to get married and won't live together?

Loveing doesn't mean "marriage". If you want to stay single and not suffer another divorce, then don't do it.
The love you two share now, should be enough if that's what you two agree on.
IF he is wanting marriage, talk to him about the piece of paper that will bind you by vows you already took once, and they didn't last.
Ask for him to give you time.
Don't do, what you don't feel.
