I used to answer these questions honestly, but have since had to change my responses in a pro-government format or say nothing at all. I hope this is okay with you, Mr. Bush. Please don't send your agents after me again. You really are the best darn President we ever had.

Americans don't even spend the time to listen to what their government spouts. They're too busy listening to the rubbish that MEDIA spouts. Americans have about 10 days of vacation and 200+ days of hard work each year, with no guarantee of employment, anywhere. We elect our officials and let them do their jobs. Every 2 or 4 years, we decide how well they did and if they deserve another go.

Americans are much smarter than the world gives them credit for. If they were not, how else would their domination of the global economy and political agenda take place?

It's because we get handed the same thing every 4 years that it just wears us down to the point that we don't care anymore. With struggling to pay bills and making ends meet we shuffle through life trying to survive. And most of News we get is actually never fair and balanced but just something the government throws out there to distract us from the truth. The truth is that the Government doesn't care for the people as long as we follow them like army ants.

Conditioning from an early age using religion and the education system , creating the `blind faith` and `the teacher is right` syndromes, followed later by a manipulated media espousing only the official view of everything.
Keep them busy at work and full of rubbish when they are at play, then they will never even think about what is true or not.

The more you are told you are free, the more you are actually going to believe it.

We don't, we just can't do anything about it.
Once the politicians get on the gravy train they will do whatever they can to keep their jobs (and large salary, etc.). When a new lot get in they will do the same. Behind the scenes the civil servants actually run the counrty. Do you think Gordon Brown works out the budget, no the civil servants do the number crunching and give him some options. Vote labour out and the civil servants stay the same.

Please specify who this supposed government is. Do you mean, American President Bush or British Prime Minister Tony Blair?

I may not agree with all of President Bush's Policies, but I feel and think he is the man for the time and so with Tony Blair.

Right now we are at war with terrorism. Either we fight 'em, or we have 'em at our doorsteps. Plain and simple as that.

No, I do not think complete rubbish comes out of Bush's or Tony's mouths.

They have no choice. They give you a vote to make you think your involved in the governmental process and with the other hand they feed you alcohol and drugs, and the need for money to fill your consumer desires. So your too busy with your daily life to be fully concerned with what the government is actually doing. To go against the tide would mean losing everything, your job, home, savings, and would likely be branded with some title which would keep you from working , flying, etc.

I think the answer to this one lies in the numbers of; tabloid papers sold, and Sky & Fox channels watched, each day.

As an example, what are our children being told: "Care about thousands of kids your age dying in Africa", or "Care about this shiny plastic toy on TV, & make sure you get one for Christmas"?
As adults, it's the same: "Don't worry that your civil liberties are being taken away & we're polluting the world, because Celebrity Y is getting a divorce from Celebrity X, because she's having Celebrity Z's baby"!

Speaking as someone who has lived in both the US and UK and who has gone to school in both countries, I would say a lot of it has to do with education.

We program our children to believe what we tell them. For example, the history of the war for independence I was taught in the US bore very little resemblance to the history of that same war which I was taught in the UK. The history of WWII also sounded very different, depending upon where I was being taught.

Just so, we teach the children from a young age that the government is good, it protects us, it defends freedom. Those who are lazy simply accept this and do not question. Those with slightly more intellectual energy question, research and then either CHOOSE to accept or reject it.

At least, that's my point of view...

Because when we just take the politicians and their pundits as the truth, it helps to avoid the effort of actually thinking for ourselves. I mean, we might have to turn off the television, read a newspaper, and consider some opinion other than our own!

And, of course, when we actually DO start thinking on our own, we tend to keep it to ourselves, else the non-thinkers start labeling us as communists, traitors, fascists, devil-worshipers, or atheists. After all, it's not PATRIOTIC to THINK! It's patriotic to support your government no matter what it does!

I love my country. I do not love its leaders. One in particular.
