Firstly, let us define the word, 'silly'. It derives from the Old English 'saelig', which means 'to be fortunate' . Therefore, it could be construed that if one is silly, one is lucky enough not to be weighed down with superfluous considerations in making one's enquiry.

In respect of the quetion to which I am replying, I would subsititute the word "silly" with the word "useless". If there is no utility to the question, then the answers should reflect this lack. If the question is posed out of genuine ignorance, or can be construed in such terms; even if it appears 'silly', then it deserves the best answer that our community can give. After all, what function is served by answering presumed idiocy with the answer of a moron?

The only silly question is the one not asked. On the other hand, a silly answer is a waste of a valuable opportunity to teach.... and in teaching, learn.

Hello,

Silly questions arn't always as silly as they look on reflection. I think most questions on here even the most silly looking need a bit of thought,,,,,,, although mine are few and far between. Still i like the silly ones and its funny to laugh

It depends on whether or not the asker is trying to be serious. Laughter breeds laughter, as silly breeds silly. Does one deserve a silly answer, maybe not, but is this not what we have come to expect? "Laugh and the world laughs with you, cry and you cry alone" a famous person once said. Have Fun!!

It depends with the person answering and how the question arose. However, what is considered silly by one may be deduced as intelligent by another. So a silly question may be answered in a silly way or in an intelligent way .

It depends on each individual. One person may think a question is silly, another may not. In my opinion, you have a right to ask a question, "if you need an answer."
