sure. although there are many ways in which one thing is proportional to another. maybe a really stupid man might have awful character because of the closed off corner he lives in. or a really intelligent man might have great character because he sees perspectives and intelligence has given him empathy.

or maybe a really intelligent man is so smart he believes himself superior to everyone else. or a stupid man might realize how little he knows and spends his life trying to improve himself.

all different, but still directly proportional to intelligence.

I really want to say yes, because I concider intelligence on the same page as wisdom and wisdom is based upon character. However, concider Elron Hubbard for example. He really had no character to speak of. At least not the last, oh, twenty years of his life. Yet he was an extremely intelligent individual. He knew so much about the psychie and of course was founder of Scientoligy. Throughout his life he had a grip of accomplishments. Yet his character was corrupt. So, the answer can only be NO. On account of the capabilities and and tendencies of man's heart to be evil.

I'm going with no..

The statement eludes that one has to have intelligence in order to have any character (regardless of the perceived good or bad character).

That would imply that unlearned/uneducated people cannot have character and that simply is false. Too many great examples to even begin a list.

The same goes for those who equate intelligence with wisdom... which also is a fallacy.
I know plenty of people with little education who are wise beyond their years.

I also know plenty of people with more than sufficient intelligence who are dumber than rocks when it comes to applying that knowledge.

Wisdom/Character traits come with the application of life’s experiences, not what you can get out of a book.

Hey Bloody Adalwolf,

I Agree. Character is developed over a persons life, the smarter a person is the more they are able to develop that character. It is not a statement of 'good or bad', so it is not an indictment of Napoleon as a statement.

No. Some of the most intelligent people known have had questionable character, not exactly the kind that would imply greatness. (That is, of course, assuming this quote is bridging higher intelligence to better character).

No. Character and intelligence have nothing to do with each other. Napoleon was an egotistical, megalomaniacal, naughty boy. Your character determines who and what you are. Your intelligence determines how well you use what you have.
Some smart people are jerks.
Some are nice.
The same goes for stupid people (and all you dummies out there know who you are, don'tcha). Ho,ho,Ho.

No. There have been many people throughout history who were very intelligent and also very evil.
And I'm sure the reverse is also true--a person doesn't have to be a genius to be of good character.

As a genral statrement no not in the least.

But in a histroical context Maybe napolen ment people will judge your greatness/wisdom by the mistakes or misteps you make as they relate to charetor flaws..

Example, Napaolen him self is considered wise and yet his own chareter flaw "vainty and over hunger for power" was strong enough to destroy him. So does this mean he is dumb. no he did great things.

Re verse exapmle. My own family was raised poor as dirtbut never stole to feed our selves some of us made it out of ghetto and in to better lives some did not but we were all honest and hard working. So our charetor was good but maybe some of us weartn smart enough to move forward.

Let say this, a human can have intellect but no character, but a human with character always is intelligent. Its what one call that rarity in humanity today....wisdom.
