I know that book! We had to read for my senoir H.S. class. I only graduated in June, so I still remeber. I liked that book. Basically, MacBeth is the main character. He is a soldier of the Duke. One day after battle these three wicthes,or fates, come up to MacBeth and his friend Barsino(I think that's how they spell it, I forgot). The three witches tell MacBeth that he will be King, but also Barsino's kids can take place as King as well.That's where the plot happens because MacBeth then kills the Duke, in order to be king. Then MacBeth goes around and kills Barsino's whoel family so that way no one can stand in his of being King. In the end of the novel, MacBeth ends up being killed (his head cut off). The novel's theme, well to me anyway, would have to be that in the end, greed can come back and haunt you. If I didn't help you can also try CliffNotes, it helps me a lot. =}

The play is seen as an archetypal tale of the dangers of the lust for power and betrayal of friends. It is loosely based upon the historical account of King Macbeth of Scotland by the Scottish philosopher Hector Boece. Boece's account flattered the antecedents of his patron, King James VI of Scotland (also known as King James I of England), and greatly maligned the real-life Macbeth, the King of Scots.

The synopsis of the play can be read here:

There's a proper book? Or are you talking about Shakespeare's Macbeth play? Shakespeare's Macbeth is great.

Three witches tell MacBeth that he's destined to be king, so he figures jump the queue and kill the king, frame the heir and be king. Ends up having to kill a bunch of people to keep the pretence up, so he's none too pleased about that lemme tellya. Ends up dead, don't we all?
