Under New York's Domestic Relations Law, child support ends at 21 ordinarily, but most courts award through age 22 if the child is attending college and is not emancipated, as defined either in law or in your settlement agreement or judgment of divorce.

if your son lives on his own you do not have to pay his mom. Get a change of support through the court. I think child support is only until they are 18. You could ask you son what he needs from you and bypass the ex altogether

I live in Pa.my child support officially ended the day my son graduated from HS as he was 18 at that time.He owed arrears so he is still paying even though my son is now 19 and works full time.My boyfriend paid child support until his daughter graduated from college. He wasn't obligated to pay after she graduated HS,but he felt he wanted to continue it until her education was complete. However,he paid that money to his daughter, not her mother.
Your child's mother is no longer supporting him so I see no reason you would still be obligated to pay her, that doesn't make any sense.

Don't listen to these women you don't have to pay anything past age 18. No judge in the land is going to throw you in jail for failure to pay child support past age 18 no matter what the agreement says.

Depends upon if you are in arrears in the support. If you are, you must continue to pay. Also, your support order should state such. If your order reads that support continues until he is out of school, then your screwed. If you are not in arrears, get an attorney to modify the support order. She will have to come back to NY for court.

What you pay you ex may be alimony, not child support. Child support usually ends at age 18.

If your order does not say a termination date / age it would default to age 21. Have you made contact with your caseworker? If you explain the situation to them they may be able to give you advice.
