THough most of your answers sound good, he had to leave becasue he was a Ring bearer, in the books, Frodo,Bilbo, Galadriel, Gandalf, and Elrond left on the boat (not Celeborn as the movie showed). Also Sam was allowed to sail to the undying lands later in life since he for a short time held the Ring.

That's the way Tolkein ended the book. Frodo can't be happy in the Shire anymore and he and Bilbo go off to live with the Elves across the sea. You should read the books. They changed so, so much in the movies, it was awful. I like the movies, but the book is so much better.

It was because Frodo had done his job. Lif went on in the Shire but I guess that Frodo wanted to be with the elves.

Dr. Stannus strode briskly into the Star Home operations center and took his place at the flight director's station. He glanced around- very much like a conductor surveying his orchestra- and cleared his throat. He even tapped a stylus on the edge of the console. "Begin pre-launch checklist," he declared in ringing tones. "Call Go or No Go. Range safety?"

Because that's how Tolkien wrote it. The weight of the Ring wore him out, and I guess he got tired of living the lie that he was the one who destroyed the Ring, when it was Gollum who bit his finger off and then fell into the lava that destroyed it.

it's symbolic of death in this "middle earth", going on to the "next" one. all the elves, bilbo, etc, knew they were gonna leave eventually to move on...i think it is symbolic in our lives as going to heaven, or our next life.
frodo did what he was supposed to do, and was ready to move on because he had experienced so much in this life, he needs to go on to live peacefully in the "heaven" like world! :)
