Agreed! That's seriously one of the saddest instrumentals I've ever heard.

"The Heart Asks Pleasure First" by Michael Nyman, off "The Piano" soundtrack, is another contender for the saddest instrimental. Its melancholic and it really captures the essence of being stuck in a foreign place, married to a man you do not love (watch the movie to find out!)

I think "I Wish You Love" by Natalie Cole (though there are other versions) is sad too. Heartbreaking, how her voice carries so much steady yet pained emotion at saying goodbye to someone she loves very much and yet can never be with.

There are other sad songs out there - really too many to be mentioned - but you could try www.pandora.com to find out more. Good luck!

I actually have 2 songs that do that to me.....
1. Forever Young by Alphaville. It was the favourite song of a girl I went to high school with and she was killed in a car accident when she was 17
2. Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd. Reminds me of my best friend who passed away the day my daughter was 4 months old. She got me hooked on Pink Floyd, took me to see them in concert. My daughter is now 7 and she has really missed out on knowing a wonderful person.

Anything played on bagpipes brings tears to my eyes. I can't stand the sound of a cat being squeezed to death.
