Before you pull your hair out, take your laptop to a hotel or cafe that has a wireless hotspot (where you can connect to their wireless internet for free). Have a cup of coffee and try to access the internet from their connection. If you can, and everything works fine, then you know the problem isn't your laptop. I suspect everything will work fine. If it does, go home and log on to your home wireless connection. Open a command prompt and type "ping 64.233.167.99". That's one of google's public IP numbers. Then "ping google.com". If you get a reply from the address, but not the name, your problem is with DNS. Put the address of your ISP's DNS servers onto your router or laptop and you'll be fine. If you can't ping the IP address or the name, you have no connection. Check with your ISP to be sure the WAN side of your router/modem is set correctly. Reboot your router/modem with appropriate settings and try again.
If you get a reply from both the address and the name, you're problems are over.
