I am an ex-ebay user simply because of paypal.
Most people that put something on ebay for sale will take credit cards which you have recourse if it is misused.
Paypal however does not and will not help you. They say they do but they do not honor squat. If someone sells something and you get it and it is a brick and you bought a watch it takes 60 days to file a claim with ebay. You wait 60 days and then they say, " we found on behalf of the seller", the reason why is because they made a commision off the seller not you. So what I am telling you is that Pay Pal is not your pal they are a bunch of worthless morons in Nebraska ( no offense on nebraskins but thats where paypal is) that will do nothing to help you. Even if your account is compromised you can not call them unless you pay for the call because they have no 1-800 number you have to pay for the call and they will not close your account. They refused to do it and said that under no circumstances would they and I would have to go on line and do it myself. My point is they are worthless.
If someone is selling something use a credit card to buy it where you have protection because paypal and ebay are the same company now and have been for 2 years and they will not help you. Your credit card company will and they will cancel the sale and not pay the person that ripped you off.
PAY PAL SUCKS DON"T DO IT!!
P.S. And Robert if you are looking for a laptop try computer shops and post an add at your school on a bulletin board. Don't buy it off e-bay. You won't know what you are getting and that’s all you need is to spend hard earned or scarce money on a piece of crap that is nothing more then a paper weight.

After you register and login you can then bid on an item by clicking on the BID button.
Prior to deciding you want to bid on an item, check out the sellers feedback. If they have a low percentage in feedbacks for being a good seller.. find another item from another seller.. stay away from bad feedback sellers..
Those just getting started without much feedback, you might want to think twice about bidding... but at least give them a chance.. I have and have not been sorry.. yet.. knock on wood.
There is a minimum bid that you need to meet. If you bid more than the minimum you will only see the minimum amount of your bid until someone bids against you and then the bid will go up to your maximum... after which it goes to someone that outbid you...
If there is a 'reserve price' you will get reserve not met until you bid at least that amount.. he who bids the most takes home the item
Paypal is a way of buying things on Ebay with a credit card or directly from your bank account.. part of ebay... Send money to family and friends, forward a gift of money, buy online - PayPal is the secure, free, easy way to pay.
Good luck

First of all, if you plan to use PayPal to pay for your eBay purchases you need to sign up with this service. You can do this by going to www.Paypal.com. As far as bidding on ebay, if you are a registered user, you should have no problem placing a bid. If the seller accepts Paypal only, then you need to have your account set up first before you bid. You have to be signed in to ebay under your user ID before you can bid. I hope this helps, if not, specify exactly what you did and what happened when you were unable to bid.
