Since it is West of the widely-accepted conventional prime meridian that runs through Greenwich, England, it is considered to be in the Western Hemisphere.

Now if the prime meridian happened to be between Russia and Alaska, then North America would be in the Eastern Hemisphere.

North America is in northern hemisphere. It is niether in the eastern or western as there are no such hemispheres.......earth is round and one can't categorize earth into western or eastern hemisphere.
