Put as simply as possible, it boils down to the old cultural and xnophobic differences. English oppressed the irish, English oppressed the americans etc etc Why do you think there is an United Kingdom ?....it is only because of ' english oppression ', on all the surrounding countries....Scotland, Wales and Ireland (Northern Ireland). Any way, getting back to the question lol

Throughout time, various US Administrations have been funding and/or sponsoring financial aid towards the IRA, via their own organisation(s) through CIA Operations. It is nothing new for Western Governments to do this type of negotiating/political expedience within their own intelligence...whether it be civil or military....towards foreign organisations opposing Governments. The US Government, indirectly, has known of the organisation NORAID (not to be confused with the US Government Department NORAD lol), an organisation setup in 1968/69, in which public as well as government funding was allowed to be raised for the organisations ' political foreign agenda ', for years, and has allowed this raising of funds to continue until 9/11. Since 9/11, the US Government has distanced itself from NORAID, but still lets it operate on a much smaller scale.

As a point of refeence, the Bush Administration is aiding and funding 19 known terrorist groups around the world, but the american public are lead to believe they are called ' freedom fighters ', but to most other western countries, they are terrorists.

Different terrorism. Irish terrorism never really touched American lives.

Besides its a heritage thing. Be you in the North East, the Mid West or the South, millions of Americans including former presidents like Kennedy, Nixon, Carter, Reagan and Clinton owe their ancestry at least in part to Ireland. A lot of Americans are ignorant of the grief that the IRA caused Britons for many years but the IRA aren't stupid themselves. They've sent representatives to America to give lectures and talk about the "troubles" over there putting their own spin on it and playing to the romantic senses of many Irish Americans of rural life in the Green fields of Ireland where one hears constant fiddle music and many a pint 'o Guinness is drunk.

Many people in places like Boston (the capital of "Irish America") see the IRA a romantic freedom fighters battling the British as did the American Revolutionaries all those years ago. Reference the Boston Tea party!

lol - I am absolutely NOT anti america but I have to back you up to those who dont believe you or think you are spouting some of the amazing conspiracy theories I have seen some americans spouting on here - successive American governments supported the IRA. They did not do this in an anti England stance, more they were captivated and sold on the romantic Irish historical thing. The IRA were very slick over in America for many years and got a lot of their funds there. It was not that the American Government paid them directly, but they allowed them certain freedoms and liberties.

The reason they have changed their mind about terrorism is simply that it has now touched them. If the IRA had ever been stupid enough to bomb America (obviously they never would have) things would have been very different for Mr Adams and his cohorts.

I can't remember, but did the IRA ever attack the United States? Or is it just my imagination that the terrorists began this war by attacking the United States on 9/11?

By the way, which American president sponsered the IRA?

Its not the americans as a whole, the war on terror has been brought about to introduce more laws to stop, search, arrest and basically control us. It allows the powers that be (with our consent) to invade countries that are rich in oil / opium and other high profit consumables in order to fund their greed! There were no weapons of mass destruction found in Iraq, no bin laden and no proof of terrorism. So where is the justification for this war on terror. The war on terror is actually a war on freedom, YOUR FREEDOM AND MINE! Go to 'GOOGLE VIDEO' and search for 'ALEX JONES' - This guy proves what he says! also check out 'DAVID ICKE' -

Ask yourself this:-
How can the few people that control the country that you live in, possible know what the millions want? And If the do know, why don't they do it?

Yes you are right, but that all ended after Timothy Mcveigh set off his bomb and American learnt not to sponser terrorism.

To be fair, the Americans did have a dislike for the British Army too a few hundred years ago.

The US Government did nothing to stop the fundraising either.

The Americans' respect for the IRA diminished when it became apparent that they had a lot in common with ay-rab terrorists.

because these americans dont really ave a clue wats goin on, they dont truely under stand wat went on in the north, obviously no country should back a terrorist association, but they did, now they are condradicting themselves by tryin to fight the terrorists.

like hello!!!

im from northern ireland and i wud support the ira, but surely they should ave known that it was pointless america supporting them, because no one over here really cares if they do are not, because they are still goin to continue fighting, people don't really look to america for to support them they got stuff their own way
