Perhaps he is buying into Americanization like some Blacks do. His country must feel more in tune with Whites or want to be white, in order for him to feel this way. If I were you, I would question why he feel this way, and what led him to believe that he is a White man. White is totally different from Egyptian, he needs to wake up, hon.

What people describe as white, is generally Caucasian. Caucasians originated in the Caucasus region, the area between Russian and Iran. I would say he is probably correct. I think that of a lot of Middle Eastern people have Caucasian genes, others other have ***** genes and still others are mixed. The Middle East is the fertile crescent, "the cradle of civilization", the Mediterranean, etc is a crossroads between Africa, Asia and Europe people mixed (my dad is Sicilian but looks Middle Eastern). When the Romans went into an area, their soldiers stayed and married the locals. I'm sure that when people came North from Africa, South from the Caucasus and West from Asia, the same thing happened. But Arabs are generally thought of as Caucasians.

But then again, racial classification is not precise, even artificial. I know "blacks" with smaller noses than mine who are lighter than me during the summer. (I have brown hair and blue eyes). I wonder where I fit then? Why do we still care about this?

For the sake of argument, he is caucasian. I'm not sure how this topic would come up in regular conversation between friends but if you guys were talking about race, he was talking about a racial group whereas you are talking about an ethnic group.

The bottom line though is what he considers himself matters most. His statement doesn't sound like he's denying Egyptian roots by saying he's white. Even if it was, in a debate where your opinion of him is matched against the opinion he has of himself, you'd have to agree to disagree. Your opinion wouldn't really matter. That's a conversation best never happened.

Who decides who is white and who is not? Is there an official committee that tests people with a special skin color meter? What if you're tanned? Who draws the line to divide between white and other colors? .... Race is a stupid idea invented by narrow minded people to establish superiority over others.

Why does that matter. If we could just forget about segmenting people by color, we could get on with all the important things. Do you think yellow cats care whether other cats are black, white, spotted, or striped. I don't think so.

Why is it important to you to prove what he believes is true is wrong? What is your motivation or underling reason for doing this? Think about that for a while. My first impression of your comments are that you are probably racist, even though you may deny it. Arrogant, as well. If you were not, why would you argue such a inconsequential thing? Also, wouldn't he be a little better judge of his ancestry than you?

He may be didn't mean the complexion itself. Maybe you asked him about his race and he didn't find another answer. Most Egyptians I know describe themselves as brown (even if they are white-looking) and are very proud of it .. I mean SO PROUD ....
