First, read the general information at http://www.virtualstampclub.com/inherit.html - it doesn't matter if you inherited them or got them another way.

Second, plan to go to CHICAGOPEX, a major stamp show with dealers from all over the country, which is coming up November 17-19 in Arlington Heights. http://www.chicagopex.com/ The dealers will be very busy on Saturday, but on Friday or Sunday there will be dealers who have the time to look at your collection and give you a rough idea of its worth. Don't be disappointed if they tell you it is not especially valuable - most old stamp collections are not worth big bucks, but there are exceptions, and this is an excellent opportunity to find out.

Get to the phone book and look up a stamp dealer. Must be a few where you live. Or go to a library and look them up in a Scott's catalog, if they are U.S. stamps. If world stamps you need to see a world stamp dealer. See more than one, so you get a better idea of what the value is. Chicago has a lot of coin and stamp dealers.
