The bill passed but, why did these people vote against it? Do they not want you to know how they are spending your money?

Primarily all Democrats, is this more tax and steal your money for pork?

see the whole list http://www.congress.org/congressorg/issues/votes/?votenum=449&chamber=H&congress=1092&printer=1

Seems like those that do not want reform in spending our money are pretty much the same group as these. I guess that's what socialism is, steal from America to give to ????

Some Democrats who oppose the legislation say that removing pork power from Congress will simply shift more spending power to appointee-level positions in the Executive Branch. In all reality, this is an absurd claim that is simply part of partisan fear-mongering.

The Democrats think they have an issue here because A.) they believe they can rile up entitlement-hungry constituents, and B.) they believe that implicating the Executive Branch is a convenient way to somehow rope President Bush and his accompanying low poll numbers into the debate. The problem is that, while many politicians of both parties do effectively wield the spoils system to garner urban, union, and environmentalist votes, the resulting political successes are limited to individual districts while America as a whole is disgusted.

Due to the GOP's relative inaction to curb spending over the past six years, the public is as irate as ever over wasteful spending, and in a way the Republicans have a chance to profit from their own fiscal irresponsibility by finally taking action while the Dems sit idly by and refuse to get with the program.

The bottom line that we see with the party division is that most Democrats still see federal funding as coming from the government, while most Republicans see it (even if not as clearly as in the past) as coming from the taxpayers.

Many Democrats voted against this bill because it's a transparent bit of fluff that says nothing, does nothing, and will not stop the problem ONE LITTLE BIT, and they wanted this one to fail so they could move on to something that might actually make a difference. All this resolution does is allow the 199 Republicans who voted for it to pat themselves on the back and point fingers at the Democrats who voted against a bill that does nothing.

This was a feel-good, election-oriented bit of fluff. Even 24 REPUBLICANS voted against it.

And how nice that the link you gave us shows only the vote, with no analysis or text of the actual resolution, which I have provided below.

The gist of it is that, if there is an earmark in a bill, it has to be listed separately along with the name of the person requesting it. That's all. AS THOUGH NO ONE KNEW WHO WAS REQUESTING IT NOW!!!

This is a GOP feel-good bill that does nothing, and I support anyone who voted against it. ESPECIALLY the Republicans who had enough of a conscience to cross the party line.

Exactly. All the earmarks would get rejected if all 435 Reps were aware of them. Pork, unfortunately buys votes.

Exactly what services do you want to get rid of? Which services are you willing to do for yourself? Which services will you divide up within you own community?
