Any food that will lead to constipation should be avoided. Too much starch (rice, bread, potatoes, etc). Drink a lot of fluids especially water and eat plenty of vegetables & fruits for fibre along with Bran products. Stay away from spicy food also.

A high fiber diet is essential according to my references. Flavinoids such as rutin or hesperidin, and herbals such as Bucher's Broom have helped some people. Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine touts Aortic Glycosaminoglycans as the supplement of choice in promoting healing. Take vitamin C 500-1000mg 3 times daily.
Eat a lot of whole grains and avoid foods made with refined (white) flour and sugar. Citrus fruits and berries are rich in healing polyphenols and fiber.
Scrupulous hygiene is essential too. I used Vitamin A&D ointment liberally on my bottom and it helped. Good luck!

This is an interesting web site that teaches how to get rid of hemorrhoids without drugs http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=412. I recently bought their ebook. I'm trying their system with good results.
It really helped me.
Give it a try.
