NaBH4 + HCl --> ?

Thats what I think I was missing! It is dilute HCl, so there would be water in the mix as well

2NaBH4+6HCl yields 2NaCl + 2BCl3 + 7H2

Water is just the solvent.

You would actually see it decompose to elemental boron and hydrogen upon acidification. Kinda not sure what the balanced reaction would be, but given the kind of heat and explosion potential you would get from that, can you make sure that you're on the other side of the planet from me when you attempt to acidify a hydride?
