By what reference do you infer that the Welsh sound "silly when they speak"? Are you also inferring that the Northern Irish, Scots, Manx, sound silly when they speak? Can you differentiate between the the various accents of Wales? I can tell you one thing, the Welsh accent, when they speak English, is better than the 'yeah, mate, whatever' of Estuary English.
As to when the Welsh speak Welsh, they will slip in the odd English word. This is known as portmanteaux, itself an importation from the French language. The English do it too - terms such as 'gestalt', 'schadenfreude' Quid pro quo, are all imports for other languages, and express subtleties and nuances that the English language cannot quite tackle. How about 'Weltanschaung'!
How about 'Diva'? A term used in the useless red-top tabloids, to refer to fashion idols. The word derives fron the Sanskrit 'Deva', meaning (among other things) Goddess.
'Gibber' holds its derivation from the Proto-Celt (possibly Basque) Cuebra, which means to expostulate in a salacious manner.
How many of us know that the F word derives from the Old German 'ficken' (to copulate). Incidentally, ask yourself the question, if one copulates, can one pulate?
If there are any Welshmen reading this, then speak Welsh, and keep your accent when you speak English. Most of Southern England has lost their regional accents, replaced by the uncouth 'Estuary English'. Don't let it happen in the Rhondda. OK, I'm an Englishman, albeit of Irish stock, but the Welsh accent is not silly - it is a manifestation of Welshness.

thank you for everyone who praises the welsh language and accent - born and raised Welsh and proud!
If you think people who speak welsh sound silly then i suggest you try and learn it - see if you can manage the difficult words.
We add English words when we speak because sometimes the Welsh word isn't appropriate or to piss off the English. Giving them the odd word here and there makes them try to figure out what Welsh people are talking about - when they can't they say we sound "silly".
diolch - for the points! x

They think you sound silly when you speak, because your accent is different from theirs. How do you know that they're the ones who sound normal, and not you? After all, the Welsh have been around a lot longer than America has.

Noooo I just love to hear the Welsh speak. I love the soft tones.
I would think that if they do use the odd English word it is because they are new words like iPod and such.
