Tricky tricky tricky question, I would say Brian May is absolutley brilliant, check out the difference in the sound of We are the Champions and Sheer Heart Attack, or even Another One bites the dust the man is a musical chameleon. Freddie was also very versatile( not to mention his unmatched showmanship) However opinions do vary.

Brian May is brilliant! he made his own guitar out of a fireplace mantle and made a sound that noone has ever been able to duplicate exactly. His writing is a big part of what made Queen the super band they were (and arguably still are, at least in legend).

Freddie had a unique sound due to his teeth being messed up. He too, was brilliant and had a killer range, though Danny Elfman, formerly of Oingo Boingo, has an even broader range.

Queen is one of the most innovative groups in history.

Brian May is a brilliant musician, and a great guitarist.

Freddie, although tragic, is a rock icon and will always be.

If you like Queen, check out Yes (my personal favorite), Marillion and Dream Theater.

Rock On!

Brian May - above average, but I wouldn't say brilliant.

Freddie - Versatile with an incredible range beaten only by Mariah Carey. And a wardrobe to match!

Brian May is a legend, he plays from the heart and it seems effortless
Freddie Mercury is one of a kind he was born to perform the man will never be replacable and i think that by touring with someone else Queen is doing him a great injustice

One of the reasons I always liked Brian May, and I saw them live quite a few times, was that he would just stand there and play the guitar and not feel it neccesary to act like an egotistical muppet for effect. For me he was brilliant.

Freddie was just a bit of a one-off and new how to work an audience, but he was a good singer.
