I don't work at Sonic, but I really love going to Sonic! (that's why the logo is in my avatar lol!)

I actually asked this same question not long ago;

You should look at the answers there, for some more insight too.

As for me personally, I always tip the car hops at Sonict. They don't make a lot of money, and there usually just high school or college kids trying to make some money. I usually give them a $3 tip, but if there really helpful or friendly, ect, I will given them more. When I asked this same question, a person said you always tip some one when they bring you food. Which is true. When you pay for your meal your not really paying them, your paying the Sonic chain and brand, they get very little of what the company actually earns.

So I would say yes, you should tip them. Obviously if your just getting a shake or drink, or somethnig simple like that then I wouldn't give them a tip of more than $5. But when they bring the food and all that, you should tip them a decent amount of money. Now, there is the occasional ones who are rude and don't do anything but talk and stand around. It's those ones who I do not tip, but usually there pretty good and friendly.

- Hope this helps :-)
- SONIC!!

Well.... in a real restaurant I tip 20%, at Sonic, which I frequent pretty often I tend to tip about 8-10% - depends on the change I get back. But yes... tip at Sonic!

In my opinion, yes. Carhops are allowing you the luxury of staying in your vechicle and having one on one service. Most Sonic's have a drive through window for those that don't feel the need to be waited on.

I read a comment here about leaving a tip of $5.00 for a Milkshake or such, and I have to say that is ridiculous. A standard tip is 15 to 20% of the total. You can certainly leave more if you like and I usually do if the service is good.

It's always your option whether you tip or not. You should tip if the service is good. I have been to Sonic's where the girls stand around talking when the food is ready. I never give them a tip. Usually they are fast and friendly and I leave them a little tip. They don't get paid very much.

Just for a simple answer, I would say yes. The carhops make very little to begin with and if they are courteous, and try and make sure that you get the food you ordered and respond quickly to another request that you have, they really deserve a tip. After all, they are not there just for the fun of it and they are trying to make a living or support a trip through college.
As it happens sometimes, if you get a rude, or a person that doesn't care, thin I for one do not tip them. What a dollar if you ordered a burger and coke?

you don't have to but it is a nice gesture, What is 50-60 cents to you? nothing right? you're just going to throw it in your purse, right? but to them if they get like 40 cars going through there and even half tip them that is probably an extra 15 to 20 bucks. I wouldn't mind that. and don't listen to the guy that said they'll get offended. Why would giving someone money offend them????Duh it is their job.

I've always pondered this question. I usually don't tip at Sonic, unless she's really hot.
