I have to have a C-Section and a friend of mine told me that if I plan to breastfeed they won't send me home with any pain med's to control the pain afterwards?? Does anyone know anything about this?? Is it true??? I'm really scared about having a c-section to begin with, but I don't think I could bare the pain of a serious surgery without any pain medication. Only answer if you have experience please. Don't get me wrong, if I have to I will, but taking care of a newborn and my other kids and the house and laundry, and everything else, I just don't want to be a DEVIL because I'm in so much pain on top of everything alse I have to take care of. Thank You. And I also don't want my other kids to be upset with me because I'm being such a B---- because of lack of sleep, or so much pain. Please help me out, all I do is worry. Thanks again.. Oh and for those of you who wonder, Yes I have to have a c-setion.

Hey there! I had a c-section with my daughter and I breast fed her for 1 year.. Yes they will send you home with meds that are safe to take while breastfeeding. I am sorry I don't remember off hand what they were. But some were for the pain and reduce swelling and others were for to prevent infection. But I do remember stopping at the pharmacy on the way home from the hospital. She is now 14 months and I am pregnant again and will have a c-section again. It's really not as bad as you may have heard. Especially, if it is planned. With my daughter I had an epidural and then they figured out they needed to do a c-section so I had a spinal. The c-section it self wasn't painful as much as weird. You will feel a lot of pulling and stretching. After you will probably have a morphine drip. I know you have a lot on your plate at home and I will too. I don't know how I will juggle everything but from what friends have told me "you will figure it out." My best advice to you will be to try and stay positive. I mean if you believe recovery will go fast there is a good chance that it will. Your doc will also go over what over the counter meds and pain relievers are safe. Good luck!

I had a c-section and breast fed. They do give you pain meds, just not the really good ones. They gave my extra strength Motrin and that's it! It does help but it doesn't make the pain go away completly. You will need someone there to help you. You wont be allowed to lift anything over 20lbs....which is crazy because the baby in the car seat weighs more than that and they expect you at the dr within the next week. Also make sure your staples are removed no longer than 4-5 days after surgery. Your skin will get irritate and red and start to grow over top of the staples if left in too long. The nurse that came to our home the following day after my release was suppose to take them out but didn't.....it wsn't a pleasent experience at the dr.'s office the following week having them removed.
Good luck with your surgery and recovery. :)

yes I have had two c sections and they will drug you up at the hospital, and send you home with more than enough. It won't hurt the baby i breastfeed both my kids and they are healthy. The best advice is that when the doctor tells you to walk once they take the epidural out and the I Vs do it even if it hurts you will be much better off by the time they send you home they usually keep you for 3 to4 days for c sections if your insurance pays for 4 days stay the extra day it's worth it plus you know with other kids in the house you will regret if you did not take that day. ANd do not be so scared for the c section I would choose c section over vaginal delivery anytime. I hope I helped if you need anything that I can help with E mail me good luck

I was absolutely petrified of having to have a c section, I had in my birth plan that I was only having one if me or the baby was going to die, I ended up having one and it wasn't that bad. With the epidural, you can feel everything that is going on but it doesn't hurt, just like someone is digging around in your belly! I had pain medication for 4 days after and they sent me home with some aswell, I am in the UK.
Don't worry, the pain is bad on the first day, but ok after that. I wouldn't worry too much about the house and the laundry, do you know that you are not meant to lift any thing heavier than the baby for 6 weeks after the birth? Good Luck!

Yes they will give you pain medication that is safe to take. I had a C section 7 months ago, they sent me home with Tylenol with codeine and I was able to breastfeed. To be honest it was not as bad as everyone made it seem. It will be tender for a while but just make sure that you have help because alot of movement right after you get out of the hospital can cause a problem. I did not want anyone to help me that much because it was my first baby and I felt the need to do everything, in the long run when I went for my checkup I had an infection because I reopened my wound with all the jumping around to care for the baby. So use all the help you can get because it is for the best. Good luck!!!

Yes, yes, yes! I had a c-section 4mos. ago, and they sent me home with plenty of drugs! I was more concerned than they were about the effects on the baby (I breastfed, and they knew I was going to). Just so your dr. knows you're going to bf. They won't give you something that would harm your baby. Most any pain killer will make baby extra drowsy though....just preparing you for that. PLEASE....take my advice....DON'T try to get by without your pain meds. just to be tough!!! I tried it, and was in tears w/pain many times.....too much pain to even hold or feed my baby! So don't be a hero! Nothing wrong with being pain-free that way you're a much better mommy! :) good luck

I had a C-sec and breast fed exclusively, and yes they sent me home with pain meds. I did ask the nurses if the pain meds would go into my milk and they said that it wouldn't. I also asked if it would affect my supply and they said they wouldn't. Try not to get stressed out about having a c-sec. I know everyone is different, but for me, the recovery was sooo easy! Just don't over do it. I hope all goes well and good luck!

I had 2 c-secs and had no problems with my pain medication interfering with brestfeeding. I think it was Vicodin, but your doctor will know best.
However I stopped taking the pain killers soon, wiothin a week as I had a high tolerance of pain and didn't need them, On the other hand I had a freind who had a (3 degree?) tear during a normal delivery and was taking more pain medication than I did as well as had some other complications.

Medicine these days are so advanced now, that even though yes the give you meds, they have so many kinds now that are perfectly safe to take while breastfeeding and even while your pregnant. Dont worry about it.
