Most eventually collapse. But an exceptionally well constructed one can last for an indefinite period. Appearing as a hollow, grassy mound long after the rest of the structure deteriorates.

During the growing season, you will have to mow it once a week. It does not deteriorate, die or go bad as long as it gets water and fertilizer.
What usually fails is the rubber membrane under the top soil. Then you get leaks, and it is impossible to find and patch a leak. The whole roof would need to be replaced.

I expect all the soil/compost is used up. You could re-turf it.

In the meantime, make sure you feed it and leave the cuttings there also, spread out so they don't block the light. My guess that is.
