With the consistent corruptness of the two main parties, why are people not moving and pushing the third party vote? Libertarians offer the best of what both the donkey and the elephant offer (smaller government/less taxes and increased personal rights), so why do we settle for those rich and corrupt enough to gain power in the main two (corporate) parties?

The libertarian party does call for a smaller national government and I think this could be a good thing. With the reduction of the national government, local and state governments will have more power allowing each state to differ more based upon the voting population. Personal privacy should always be taken seriously and republicans are clearly against this whole idea. Lowering taxes through minimizing national government will allow for better tracking and dispersal of funds.

a republican minded economical system in conjunction with a democratic minded personal system (rights) will not only bring the power back to the people, but also be financially beneficial.

1. dlil: he wasn't proposing moving to a one party system it was more of using a third option

2. LeoGirl: got your attention didn't it.

3. ray: it's already a political party it does exist and the fact that you don't know that is a prime example of how common Americans vote like they are rooting for a football game.

4. yelixa and lori: you should probably stop speaking in public.

5. J&C: the majority of speechs that come out of the white house for the past ten years are libertarian based, the fact that it's a good idea makes both democrats and republicans sound good even if they are doing the exact oppisite of what they said the very next day.

Keep fighting for it, you may win the day sooner then you think. What you need to do is raise candidates who are of the same elites level as the current crop of Democrats and Republicans. The ones who were born to be in the system. Thus far the picking have been slim and the results less then admirable. But the viability of the message seems to be catching on. When the message and the actions match, then the magic will happen.

Rene Marrou comes to mind as a reason to think you are full of elephant and donkey stuff.

A libertarian would accomplish nothing. Not when Republicans and Democrats control the Senate and House. Libertarians have no message. They will tear something down, yet not offer anyway to reconstruct it. It is easy to criticize. Especially when you know you will never be called to task.

We have a one party rule essentially, but I would be a green, not a libertarian if 3rd parties had a chance which they don't due to corporate greed, fake elections, controlled media,
and selection, not elections of candidates,

If the vote doesn't count --which a 3 year study on vote fraud and activist work on this issue in Ohio convinced me it doesn't--then It doesn't matter how good a party, candidate, or issue if they can rig the election with their undectable, secret software in unsafe electronic vote machines and tabulators.

What you can do to try to change this sad state of affairs is to conduct parallel elections in your area (which they will probably soon outlaw--see banvotingmachines.org ) and also try to get hand counted at the precinct voting on the ballot (but they'll rig that one for sure).

Nothing will happen unless the people make it happen with their person hood in the street in mass numbers, taking off work and using their financial power in organized boycotts for these are the only powers that we still have...sheer numbers, our labor, and our consumer money that they need and want.

"Never doubt that a small group of motivated people can change the world, indeed it is the only thing that ever has"...let it begin with you and watch the numbers grow. Get involved with taking back our country.

I was a Libertarian, but I soon realized that all the Libertarian Party did was take precious votes away from Republicans.
All it did was help Socialist Democrats.

Hardly, however, the US has adopted a two party system to its detriment. There is not enough free flow between the right and left of the political spectrum. Is the LP the solution? Not in its self. Providing room in the American political system for other political philosophies will greatly enhance the US democratic system and foster greater accountability.

I think the advent of a viable third - or fourth or..... party is inevitable in the USA.
America is probably the exception in the civilized democratic world in being only one party away from a one-party state.

You could argue that it is, in reality a one-party state now. With the two current parties You can vote mid-blue or dark blue, but you can only vote blue.

The solution lies in dissolving all political parties, let every politician run and win on the Merritt that way they will act for the people who chose them and not for special interest groups. If it happens no body can say to America a stupid nation.

The LP, has a few good ideas. Harry Browne was cool

Americans generally want a gov't that is active, helps people, and helps guide out nation.

The LP want very little gov't, with few exceptions. It'll never work in a modern world.

The two-party system works. Libertarians are a minority fringe group. You are where you belong: out of power.
