In the U.S., a cup is legally defined (for nutritional packaging) as 240 mL. So 1.25 L would be 5.2 cups.

On the other hand, traditionally a cup is half a pint, which works out to 237 mL. So 1.25 L would be 5.27 cups.

Pretty close, really. Depends on how exact you're measuring and whether you're using a measuring cup bought from a store or just comparing information written on packages. And of course in other countries it's COMPLETELY different:

In Australia and Canada, a cup is 250 mL. So 1.25 L would be exactly 5 cups.

In Japan, a cup is 200 mL. So 1.25 L would by 6.25 cups. A traditional cup in Japan is one-tenth of a 'flask', or about 180 mL. So one 1.25 L would be about 7 cups.

And, of course, in Europe they wisely do not use 'cup' as a system of measurement at all. ( :

Hope that helps!

It gets confusing, as we all know there are 8 ounces to a cup, but US ounces are slightly different than Imperial ounces.
A US gallon has 132 ounces, while an Imperial gallon has 160 fl oz.
- 1 litre = .8799 quart (imp)
- 1 pint = .5679 litre
- 1 Imp gallon = 4.5435 litres

Forgetting about the slight discrepancy between US and Imperial fluid ounces, let's try this:

1 pint = 20 imp ounces or 2.5 cups/ or 16 US fl oz or 2 cups....

f***ed if I know...I thought this would be easy....

1.25 liters = 5.283441862273774 cups

One quart equals 0.94635 L.
With that knowledge, you take
1) Eight fluid ounces equals 1 cup.
2) Two cups equals 1 pint.
3) Two pints equals 1 quart or 32 fluid ounces.
