I think you'll get more of that reaction if you're wearing all black leathers, or even just the black t-shirt look, or sporting the usual flames, skulls and stuff that some bikers wear.
It's funny because I'm a biker myself, but if faced with a group dressed like that, I'd be a little intimidated too! Go figure.
FYI, I'm also 5'3 and have a Magna! But mine's the VF750, not the 45.
You know, I wouldn't mind being a little intimidating! I'm a girl, and I've started wearing white to ride. I probably don't scare anyone. Except sometimes small children.

If only they really knew. I have hung out in many biker bars, I am clean-cut, military looking. Everyone in them always seemed nice to me. They knew I wasn't a biker, never had any problems, actually usually had a great time. I also try to be courteous to bikers on the road, since I have a lot of biker friends (one girl I know was in an acident caused by a car that changed lanes into her, the guy got out and yelled at her, fortunately someone saw what happened, he was in another world, on the phone).
But I do understand why people feel that way. Bikers look tough as a rule, many are grimey looking and fit the stereotype, but I just think of them as sort of modern day cowboys or just regular people who enjoy freedom and the outdoors. And whether you fit the stereotype or not, you have to admit that bikers do share a few traits including a higher tolerance for danger than someone in a mini-van or an SUV

My parents are both bikers . They are in a HOG which includes a prisons inspector, a magistrate , a councillor and a retired teacher. To look at they all including my parents would fit the steriotype of an intimidating looking biker .People walking past them on campsites have been known to physically shield their children.
The same happens with Gothic looking people in some places. Whitby in North Yorkshire has a goth festival twice a year and if you speak to most people there they will tell you that goths are welcome because they know how much money the town rakes in from them.
By the way I am a university student , I have done community voluntary work and am hoping to become a nurse. My mum is in MENSA and my dad manages an engineering company. That doesn't stop a minority of people from hurling the remains of their fish and chips at us at the end of a night out in Whitby.

The reason for that is all the movies out there about murderous biker gangs. But if people actually knew some one who rides they would know that they are just people like you and me. We so not go out killing people just for the sake of doing it. I hope that this will be a lesson to some of those people out there that do look at bikers like they do. Don't give up hope yet. People have a long way to go and hopefully it will not take too long to get there.

YES!!!! Especially if they look like the street gang biker. They have a HORRID reputation and I'd be wary around them.
Yes I know everyone is different, but I wouldn't take a ride with a biker I just met for fear of being sold into slavery or killed.
But just a guy on a bike....those people are silly.

Yep! I had an acquaintance who did the Dare program and was the head of the Latino group for the police. He was a nice guy and very handsome and he loved riding motorcycles. Yet, I am still afraid of bikers. I knew someone who was head of one of the bad groups. He had a plate in his head from an accident in his youth and he wasn't all there all the time. He's broken people out of prison. These are the kinds of people most of us think of when we think of "bikers."

"i wear all of my cloths all the time (when in public!)"
ha ha ha. We don't have bikers in Engerrland so we don't really have a problem with it. Infact it's seen as quite a cool thing, a bunch of americans were riding their Harleys through London last year and everybody seemed to be in awe of their bikes. I reckon, that movies in america have given you easy riders a bad image. Like a bunch of brawlers and stuff. They need to watch Erin Bronocwich, that biker dude was cool!
And yes i'm 23ish! You don't believe me? ha ha, well I am, one day I might even send you a picture :P Would you let me have a go on your bike?

Unfortunately there are alot of people who are intimitated by bikers. Tonight in fact the hotel I work at is expecting a large group of bikers for the Oyster Run an annual event held In anacortes wa. They are never a problem for us but we do have guests complain about them non the less.

People know bikers are bad boys from TV. If you are not exposed to the wonderful people you can meet that ride you are curious. Would you look if you saw a nun walking past? I think people who ride are great and have to admit I watch them because I wish I was ridding as well.

I quit worrying about it years ago..Im a mom with 4 kids and try getting the "you are a woman and ride a bike so you must be a lesbian" looks. Some are just jealous Im convinced. I had some weird looks from an elderly lady once and then when I got on my bike she gave me a thumbs up and smiled at me.
