Hummingbirds migrate in response to hormonal changes that are triggered by changing length of daylight. Nothing people can do will make them stay too long in fall, so it's not necessary to stop feeding them to force them to go south. AND you live in the South, so keep your feeder up and filled.

During fall migration, hummingbirds at the Texas coast are trying to increase their fat reserves for the depleting journey across the Gulf of Mexico. Long before they reach our coast they have traveled long-used paths south across the states. For several weeks after your "regular" summer hummingbirds have left your flowers and feeders, migrating birds could be quickly passing through your gardens unnoticed. Leaving your feeders up for at least three weeks after seeing your last hummingbird, is a general typical rule of thumb.

From the midsection to end of Setember is once I take mine down or quicker if the factors gets cooler earlier. you do no longer choose them coming on your feeder till ultimately it rather is too late for them to bypass south.once you notice the numbers you have feeding decelerate, take them down till ultimately next spring. they are the lovliest little birds and that i'm merely serious approximately them.Watch them by using the hour on end and wait for the subsequent spring.
