I don't go around calling my friends honky, cracker, or whiteboy. I especially wouldn't if I complained about those terms offending me. Why is it racist to call them n*ggers if they call each other n*ggers?

It seems to be the case that people who internalize the put-downs that come from outside tend to take those put-downs and make them part of the community lingo. Gay men used to do it a lot too, calling each other "girl." I'm a special ed teacher, and I can't believe how much the kids in special ed classes call each other "retard." It seems sad, but on some level I guess the kids are demonstrating their immunity to the insult by taking it and using it themselves, which may be a good thing. I still don't like to hear it. It sounds so rude, doesn't it?

Whoa....what are we doing? coach this sista. per chance she do merely not understand. that's no stereotype that blacks call one yet another brother and sister, brotha and sista, or brah and sis. that's prevalent. (the position have you ever been the most suitable 40 years?) even with the indisputable fact that it has certain importance interior the U. S. because us "descendants of slaves" (as you position it) have had our identities stolen from us in the course of the most undesirable holocaust in international historic past and can't hint our historic previous and subculture back to a particular united states, village, or tribe. So in an attempt to furnish us some semblence of team spirit and team spirit the position our ancestors were held hostage, we were inspired to undertake one yet another as brothers and sisters. Is that so undesirable? the following is a theory sis. does no longer it truly is efficient if our "cousins" (undergo in ideas that D?) from the mum land ought to renowned as their prodigal little kids? I advise it changed into your ancestors those who were abducted, tortured, raped, overwhelmed, and compelled into slave exertions as well. What....you merely gonna leave us hangin'? it truly is an previous slavemaster's trick to emphasise ameliorations, create conflict, then divide and triumph over. yet do not situation sis, we ain't gonna aid you fall for that back. we are gonna positioned you on to the game. That previous attitude is what offered us a fee tag on the slave deliver to commence with. Edit: LOL at Cessaria making use of $20 words like supercilious (I had to look that up)!

Great observation. What you are saying is you wouldn't use derogatory and offensive slang words on your friends, no matter what race or religion. It is just not right. In fact, family members of your friends might have personal nicknames they call each other, but that doesn't mean you get to do that. Only family members have "earned" that right. Perhaps the nicknames they use for a family member are ignorant, but that's their business. That doesn't mean you agree or would do it. That's for the family to decide. So if you follow that thought, what African Americans call each other is their business, even if it seems very wrong and offensive. I don't think all African Americans like to use that word. In any case, I truly don't have the right to use that word on them, or other horrible words on others.

if u wanted to u could go around calling uur friend cracker. but the reason other races can't or shouldn't call black people n*ggers is because the term used to be bad. when white people call back people that word its like calling them a slave. if ure ancestors had been slave u wouldn't want the people who enslave u to call u that name. think about it.

I watched a basketball game near where I lived and I counted the team members call each other ****** 103 times...and it was not said in friendship...it was said in a way that was a definite putdown...I guess it's just a way of them admitting the truth about themselves. Their behavior was definitely not civilized one bit. Very primitive in fact. I lost all respect for them.

That is a really good question. I can't seem to figure that one out. However, I thing that by taking a racist term and taking ownership of it the word becomes less bigoted.
