There is a possibility that the cars transmission shift selector might have been knocked out of wack. The computer and the car still thinks it's in gear. Try putting your foot on the brake and move the gear shift selector slowly through the gears while trying to get the key out If this works get the jerks that put your axles in to get it adjusted right. They use pry bars and hammers all around the axle and control arm to get the axles out. They may have hit just the right thing and not even known it to cause this problem.

Sometimes cars will automatically lock the ignition key. To unlock try to move your steering wheel to the right, or make sure your selector is NOT in N, it must be in park. Other things to look for include adjusting the steering wheel ( forward or backward), a small bottom on the column that may need to be pressed. That's all I can think of as an ex-parts person.

I had to have someone help me when I left my car in gear, so maybe the car thinks it is in a gear other than park. Maybe shift the gears to make sure that it knows it is in park.

If it doesn't come out, maybe you can use another key to open the car door and just use the key in the ignition to start it. But you may want to cover the key to prevent theft.

It is the tension on the tumbler. Pull the steering wheel to the left hard and turn the key out or to the right to release. The pin locks are getting worn and it is a common problem.

I've had this happen a couple of times, in different cars, and it was always just that the steering had "locked"--try turning the steering wheel gently while pulling on the key.

Sometimes if you move the steering wheel to left or right it unlocks the wheel so you can get the key out. If the steering column is locked te key will not come out.

Do you have the car in gear. If it is in neutral the key won't come out. Try pressing on the break.

sabby is right, but its more likely, that the lock is broken, and you wont get the key out yourself..
you will have to take it to a locksmith, or main dealer, where they will remove the ignition barrel, and fit a new one, with a new key....

i wiould go to a scrappy, and ask for a new barrel, with matching key, and ask either them, or a nice mechanic to fit it....
