Sociology is the scientific study of groups. These groups can include your family, school, and church. You could write about how these groups have affected you life. An example of a social force would be going to church on Sunday. Starting kinder garden at the age of five, and making sure you save the big piece of chicken for your dad. Good Luck.

Research how someone of the same age, sex etc as you lives in a country that has completely opposite values. List the differences. Importantly, while you do this, list your reasons for the differences, and examine why you think your culture is better (we all think that we live a better life than others). What has influenced you to think that your society is the best? Is it actually true? Do other countries people agree that your country is the best? Consider the influence of television and in particular, music videos (inspirational or aspirationa), soap operas (realistic or fantasy - and I dont mean the story lines, I mean the way of life, the type of houses, the decor within in context to their level of education and job). Consider advertising - what are the adverts really selling? They dont sell you a car, they sell you a dream, or appeal to your patriotism, or your pulling power with the girls. Bisto (UK) sells you the ideal family we all dream of but it is not real. Do these adverts influence the way we interact with our families - do we measure and change ourselves against them.

Do you own an Ipod or MP3 player. Ask yourself why. How is it important to how you live your life. We didnt have them 20 years ago (not including walkman or tape players). Why is it so important to have music on the move. What is the music? Is it real bands, or manufactured pop? What percentage of the worlds population actually own one. Is it necessary for life?

It is frightening how influenced the west is by the pursuit of the dollar/pound and that it can truly be said that the advertising agencies are agents of evil!

well, what you can write about is stuff such as your background, such as where and when you were born and brought up, your family. the word society means a whole range of things such as crime, the media, family, friendship, race, sexuality, age, gender, nationality. you can write about what and who influences you and the way you look at your life, at society in general and what role society plays in shaping who you are as an individual. do you think that the role it plays has a positive or negative effect overall and state why. you can also bring up social issues of relevance, particularly if they included situations and dilemmas of which you found yourself in. discuss how you resolved this issue. avoid waffling on the subject if you can and remember to answer the question.

although with an essay question as open as this, there is no clear cut right or wrong answer. its all about writing a clear, concise and legible academic piece of writing as best as you possibly can and of which demonstrates your understanding and knowledge of the subject at hand.

remember just like with any essay on any subject that you write on, when you explain an idea always back it up with an example to further highlight and substantiate your argument.

hope this helps. i wish you well with your studies!

you dont say how old you are so its tough to give you any ideas. You firstly have to decide whether you think society HAS shaped you. Or, if you just want to do what you have been asked, just think of social influences - media, friends, cultures etc that you come into contact with regularly and write about their influence on you.
