its usually cheaper if you book a round trip, however time is what makes the difference. If you are going to get dropped off and have a long time before you need to return home it may be worth it to do 2 one way fares, costs depend on what town you live in.

You need to be more specific, but when I've gone to Durham, I've often gotten the cabbie's phone number on the way in from the airport, and then negotiated a lower rate to take me back
