Well, my local theater is performing "A Christmas Carol", and I simply LOVE musicals! Another theater is performing "A White Christmas", which is also a musical. My friends will all be auditioning for ACC (A Christmas Carol), but AWC (A White Christmas) is more professional. I really like the idea of both shows, but I don't think my parents do. You see, I have this test coming up for a private school, and I will also be representing my school in a local spelling bee. The test is in, I believe, late December or so while the bee is in mid March, so I can do both. I can't do both shows, of course, because they're at the same time. ACC is from mid October to early or mid December. AWC is from late October to late December. I'd have to miss school for AWC, so that probably won't work out (I have other plans this year, so I'll have almost TEN unexcused absenses by the end of it all). Any ideas? I simply LOVE performing, and I want to do this! HELP!

PS If you have any audition tips, please

What a difficult choice! Be aware that you'll have a full rehearsal schedule for the shows which will get in the way of your studying and being prepared for your tests.

Wait until spring when your testing and bee are done; there will be other shows.

Clearly ACC is your only choice. The only way I could convince my parents to let me do theatre in high school is to keep my grades up. I think it's admirable that you're doing so much right now. There are alot of other things you could be involved in that would not please your parents. I would beg if I had to if it's something you really want to do. I know the feeling. I ended up as a theatre major in college! Tell them all these activities are prepping you for the real world and learning time management. I still have the same hectic schedule and I have accomplished so much because of the habits I developed in HS.

advice: Don't sing a popular christmas song unless asked. Pick something that the character your auditioning for would sing. Break A Leg!!

Wow, sounds hectic! I would say, if you can handle a crazy schedule, try out for ACC, I have been in it 5 years in a row with our local theater and it is a really fun show. Since that is not as "professional" it won't be as stressful. If you can handle a stressed schedule, that means you have a passion for acting! But, if your parents say no, than just let it go, you never know, your attitude may just impress them and you could try out for another show some time!

As for audition tips, act natural. I know, that's hard! But go over your song (if you audition with a song) more times than you think, because when you get into the audition, you will be nervous! Also, right before the audition, try breathing exercises, that will slow down your heart rate, and you will be more relaxed. If you are required to cold read, try to get a copy of the script. That way, you will be familiar with it, and if you know which parts you want to try out for, go over those more closely. Most of all, prepare, prepare, prepare!

That's about it... good luck!

Acting is a difficult business and very few actually make a living at it. Actors spend more time auditioning than they acting. If your parents do not want you involved in acting, wait until you are older.

I would do whichever one is closer and has less practicing. I think your parents would be more likely to let you do something if it was easier for them. I think ACC sounds like a better choice all around!

I would agree with your parents. First things first
