You could do a scrapbook of your friendship over these past few years, and send it to her!
You could also buy an empty book with lots of pages, write an inspirational quote on every page or milestones from your friendship and decorate it tastefully, so she can use the book for stuff like addresses, or her diary, or even a daily planner! Add why she's such a great friend on the first page of the book.

What an interesting question........well, most people that live in Europe have an affinity for anything American. Have you thought about making some homeade cookies that are your favorites and sending them to her ? It would have your own personal touch. How about a scrapbook filled with pictures of both of you ? How about a picture of you with a really nice frame ? Does she have any hobbies that interest her ? Football/sports ? The list could go on..............

... a gift certificate to a local american chain food store - make sure they honor them in Germany - so she can have "a taste of home" ... casually ask her what American chains she's seen around, that will give you an idea of where to purchase some ceritificates from...
... photos of yourself and your mutual friends - so she can take them around with her and show her German friends / coworkers... either in a small album or something - think portable...
... some of her favorite American food treats she cannot find over there...
... A few DVD's of some of her favorite American Movies - in English ...
Hope those help...

Well, a gift may be anything, a costly one, a cute one......just anything. And to me, the best gift is that which reminds me a sweet memory. But when she is your best friend, you should know her better than others. So, send anything which is a good memento for your friendship.

Think back to a time you have spoken with her did she say that they was somethen she wanted or somethen that she could not afford for herself.. Maybe a necklaces & ear rings, a photo ablum with the 2 of you. Get you both somethen and send her hers and tell her when you wear yours you'll think of her friendship all day. Are there somethen that you could buy that reminds you of you both? Good Luck!! It seems hard to buy for someone so special.
