society, yes! because of bad parenting. I think alot of younger parents today think that being a parent means making sure your kids are clothed & fed, they dont take the time to teach them values & how to become mature adults. in a nutshell, i really dont feel like going there right now, but alot of people need to take parenting classes.

Yes it has gone downhill mainly because of greed and arrogance.
Man has introduced laws which have backfired due to the malice of some people. The main reason though is how society has shunned the concept of God's existence.Everything which has led to this downhill is in the bible, but man because of his selfish ends has approved some of those actions which are condemned in this holy book.Man's knowledge of science has distanced him from believing in God.His only failure is that of leading an eternal life.
Material greed has gripped everyone be they religious, political or ordinary people. All people care about is having it all whether the acquisition is through honest means or not.Wars are conducted for political gains.People are killed for religious reasons.Women go through abortion in order to justify their selfish ends and homosexuality and lesbianism is now accepted as normal.Respect amongst people is now at its lowest with the elderly at the wrong end of the ladder.
Parents on the other hand also display uncouth behaviour which the young have embraced or refined to be normal to them.We appreciate the advent of scientific technology and our democratic values but these have been usurped wrongly.

No, I do not believe that society is all that much worse than it used to be. I think we [as a people] are just much more aware of the negative aspects of our society that were not so prevalent 40 years ago.
People were not on TV carrying on about their problems like they do now. Women did not go on Maury Povich or Jerry Springer and have 8 or 10 men tested to see who was the father of their baby! If you were a **** back then, you did it in private and kept your mouth shut about it.
One thing that has seriously gone downhill in America is the fact many people no longer have any class or manners--but overall, we are not any worse off than we were 40 years ago, we just no longer sweep everything under rug. I suppose, because of that, we may appear to be "going downhill."

Yes I think there is a general lack of respect for others.
People seem too busy to worry about common courtesy and don't have respect for others, we are so worried about getting things done on time that we have lost the ability to take time to stop and take a look around us.
We need to start looking after what is important, such as the world and what we are doing to it and the future generation.
There are many reasons society has gone downhill;
Parents
Employers - bosses now put so much pressure on employees to deliver on time in the knowledge that if they don't they will find someone who can.
Cost of living.

40 years of liberal domination of the Senate, House, education, the courts, and the media. Denial of personal responsibility is the central song of liberalism, and denial of personal responsibility is at the core of the decline of the American society. As socialism grows, it moves into some Marxist projection resembling Communism which depends upon absolute control of the population... which the courts have been doing for the last three decades.
For the Marxist-liberal to survive he/she must engage in deceptive, devious, and dishonest dialog. When such dialog is excused and overlooked by the media, and in its place a constant hatred is focused on those who represent truth, honesty, and common sense, this is where we find ourselves today.

I am glad that you have quantified your question to the extent of "British Society" Nevertheless, your question, as it stands, is unaswerable, for the reasons stated below.
1. You have failed to define any perception of British society. Does this encapsulate England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and the Isle of Man?
2. Inter alia, from what background are you enquiring?
3. What do you define as "society"? The Mayfair set or the Bengali community in Shoreditch, for example.

Society has gone downhill because human beings have little compassion for their fellow human beings.
If many people who professed to believe the teachings of a certain crucified Jewish carpenter, who had a lot of really good ideas on how we should treat one another, the world would be a much better place.....
He was't conservative in His compassion......

I think we have become a nation of people (in general!) with very little sense of ethics and responsibitiy. as we have so many people with strong opinions we continously fight over religions, races, wright and wrong etc, not helped by our bad politicians! I think we have become a nation where a real community and sense of a society is gone due to the wider gap between rich and poor, we are always depressed due to stress, 'city' life and total unsattisfaction with our modern lives. I think as we gain more and more knowledge it doesnt really help us, just saddens us more as we move away from nature. I think that the lack in responsibility means more crime and so little or no relationship between communitys as they suspect people and are scared. I think that also the destruction of the 'innocence' of children has gone and left annorexic children due to models and celebs, and gangs of teenagers turning to violence like in films and filling their days with drugs, sex and alcohol becuase a) theres nothing else for them to do and b) so depressed it gives relief.

Lack of respect.
Earlier today I listened to a couple berate a bus driver for not stopping at a bus stop that he wasn't due to stop at, and then complain about his attitude beacuse he explained that they could only get off at the next one!
If JFK was around these days to make his "ask not what the country can do for you" speech most people in Britain would think he was a lunatic.
